Is 480 hrs a lot on a 496 HO? What is the life span of an HO? Would definitely do a leak down and compression.

If leakdown and compression are good(amongst other things) I would not hesitate. Lots of hours left in that motor before needing attention

Having a past boat with HO's, i have heard from several Merc Mechanics that 2000 hrs is not uncommon for the life of an HO. Just keep up with the maintenance.

My Cobra had 520 hours and I’m confident it would double that no problem.

I have more than 800 hours on my 2002 496 HO in my Eliminator 230 Eagle. Serviced religiously by my good friend Carsten Stampa. He used to work at Savage when Steve owned it. He is the best!
Been running Kendall GT1 20W50
For the last 400 hours too...

That is about as simple color scheme I've seen and yet that boat is beautiful, nice boat.

Thank you.. I appreciate the compliment. That’s exactly the sentiment I was hoping to achieve when I ordered the boat 16 years ago... classic timeless graphics was the most important to me. I’m not rich, and could only afford to order a new Eliminator one time, so I had to make sure it lasted the test of time...
I still love my boat! Ain’t never selling! Unless someone wants to trade me a 21’ Schiada RC with a giant blower motor!! Haha!
