Has anyone had any issues with running a 5 blade prop...has your drive had any issues ? What boat are you running the 5 blade on....
Thanks Kevin
Thanks Kevin
I have a 5 blade on a 23ft Ultra. Its the prop that came on the boat when we bought it and had planned to swap it but haven’t yet. Been running it 5 seasons with no issues.Has anyone had any issues with running a 5 blade prop...has your drive had any issues ? What boat are you running the 5 blade on....
Thanks Kevin
I ran a 5 Blade High 5 on my Essex with a 200 Merc. Did everything poorly. lol , it came on when I bought it. Reverse sucked also. I switched last trip to a Mirage 4 blade. Like a new boat!
i just tried a 26p 13 1/2" high 5 on my 21 daytona with a 200 on it on thursday. it actually was pretty good except for high speeds. i normally run a 3 blade mazzco 14 1/2" 26p.
They are smaller diameter i thought? Had 1 on a 350 alpha 1 and worked good but no go on a bravo was what I was thinking. Ski prop for lower horsepower.High fives don't count as real five blades.
Thanks, what brand 5 blade are you running...I have a 26 daytonaI run a 30 p 4 Blade bravo as my hot rod prop at 6300 on my 25 daytona. Good all around prop with 860 hp.
With that said my 28 p 5 blade SL is my favorite all around go to prop for the heat and full load of people or full fuel at lake Powell. 5 mph faster at 3200 rpm. Top speed is down 6-7 mph from the 4 blade 30 but don’t care. The 5 blade planes out easier and faster with less rpm. I’m an running a scx upper and sc lower with 50 hrs on a brand new drive. Oil looks great every service interval.
Are you interested in selling the 28?I have a 28 Maximus and just installed a 30 Max 5. Love the Max5 definitely worth the money. I have a F26 with scx /sc. I did have a clutch issue recently, but was told that the Imco scx uppers did have several revisions to the clutch.
Just swapped a 31 modded 5 blade maximus (thanks @relaxalot !!!) in place of a 32 Bravo on my buddies 30 raptor. Huge difference, boat comes on plane easier and waaaaay less midrange prop slip when running heavy loads with people in the open bow. Haven’t tested light load / top end speed yet but for all around cruising its worlds better. Stage IV 600sci with an SCX upper / SC lower
Unfortunately by Buddy is not very “scientific” lol. What was your prop slip before and after? I have SCX upper/lower and looking to reduce my prop slip. Thxs
Thanks, what brand 5 blade are you running...I have a 26 daytona
We also have a 2750, what motor/ drive do you have turning the 26 5 blade? we have the 565 XRI have had 5 blades on my last 2 boats. 28 eagle with a hill pleasure 5 blade and the current lavey 2750 with a cutting edge 5 blade. The max 5 would be a step above. I have my drive inspected and serviced every year and have not had any issues.

I have a 496ho and am only turning a 24P 5 blade. It spins it to about 5k RPM in the right conditions. Probably would have been better with a 23P. What you can spin depends on what 5 blade you use. Teague will tell you if you buy a max 5 get the same pitch as you use in a bravo 1.We also have a 2750, what motor/ drive do you have turning the 26 5 blade? we have the 565 XR
Makes sense as my bravo 1 is a 21 pitch.I have a 496ho and am only turning a 24P 5 blade. It spins it to about 5k RPM in the right conditions. Probably would have been better with a 23P. What are you thinking? Just rebuilt my motor and added a -2 lower and believe a 5 blade might be right path. Where is prop located?I have 2 almost brand new Merc Max 5 28p RH that I will sell for a good price.
I realize all of this is based on load but the goal is 60-70 cruising with less RPM than the 4B 26 needs with only my family (2 adults, 2 kids) 1/2 to full fuel, bimini up and still be able to hit the limiter (with the bimini down). We also have a lab 27 for light days, it won't turn stock or lab 28 based on prop X, unless we change to a $horty. We tested the 25 and 27 max 5 with Teague. They didn't have a 26 at the time for us. Hit the limiter fast on the 25 and couldn't get to it with the 27, both were 15 1/4. Trying a Hill 26, slightly bigger at 15 11/16. We shall see, should the sweet spot I hope.I have a 496ho and am only turning a 24P 5 blade. It spins it to about 5k RPM in the right conditions. Probably would have been better with a 23P. The max 5 gives a lot of bow lift and kind of a lot of over all lift in the 2750. I have not tried that style 5 blade from hill, the last one i had was more of a round ear. Thats quite a jump in diameter but may work just right. The guys at hill usually know what there talking about. All I can say is if your over propped in a 2750 its a handful, you will turn right back around and change it. If the hill doesnt work i am confident the 26P max 5 would get it done for you. Im sure i don’t have to mention it but i would not be mashing the throttle to get on plane, i would push it to 3000-3400 rpm and let the prop do the work.I realize all of this is based on load but the goal is 60-70 cruising with less RPM than the 4B 26 needs with only my family (2 adults, 2 kids) 1/2 to full fuel, bimini up and still be able to hit the limiter (with the bimini down). You need more motor. A 2750 loaded and you want to cruise 60-70?I realize all of this is based on load but the goal is 60-70 cruising with less RPM than the 4B 26 needs with only my family (2 adults, 2 kids) 1/2 to full fuel, bimini up and still be able to hit the limiter (with the bimini down). Shouldn't be to far off. not loaded the 2750 turns 70mph with a 496ho and 82mph with a 525. 70 cruise would probably be a stretch though. Depends on ones opinion of what rpm cruise is.You need more motor. A 2750 loaded and you want to cruise 60-70?
What prop are you running? Shockwave put a Bravo 30p on mine and it runs pretty good but I'm getting around 22% prop slip with it....currently running a 5 blade on my 28 deck with merc xr drive imco lower 600 merc. Ill be honest i baby the shit out of it out of the hole. Bob at shockwave said to run easy with it so i do just that. Absolutely love the 5 blade gets on plane much quicker even tho i baby it.
without a doubt they are harder on the drive.
I would try a Maximus 28 likely to drop your slip to 12-14 just a guess. I don't have any real world test results but 22 % should be improvable. What prop are you running? Shockwave put a Bravo 30p on mine and it runs pretty good but I'm getting around 22% prop slip with it....
I'd like to get $1,500.00 each for them. They are in Havasu. What are you thinking? Just rebuilt my motor and added a -2 lower and believe a 5 blade might be right path. Where is prop located?
Motor is great, we can easily do it now loaded with 2 families on and a stock 26. can almost touch 80 that heavy. You need more motor. A 2750 loaded and you want to cruise 60-70?
