Thanks Kevin

Depends on who you talk with. Some reputable shops here in town say no way should you ever run a 5 blade cause it kills the drive etc. However I have a 27 Eliminator Fundeck. 730 HP on the dyno. I love running a bone stock 28P 5 blade. It is easily 5-10 mph faster at the same cruising RPM (3500) than when running a 4 blade (on my boat). I have an XR upper with a -2 imco lower. I had an xr with a standard lower on it and wanted to try a -2 so i purchased a whole new to me, so used drive and after 10 hours or so I did hurt the drive. But don't know the history of it before I purchased. Anyhow rebuilt it and am still running a 5 blade now. After 20 hours its still good. We will see how long it lasts. Still roughly the same within a few mph top end.

I have a 5 blade on a 23ft Ultra. Its the prop that came on the boat when we bought it and had planned to swap it but haven’t yet. Been running it 5 seasons with no issues.

I ran a 5 Blade High 5 on my Essex with a 200 Merc. Did everything poorly. lol , it came on when I bought it. Reverse sucked also. I switched last trip to a Mirage 4 blade. Like a new boat!

i just tried a 26p 13 1/2" high 5 on my 21 daytona with a 200 on it on thursday. it actually was pretty good except for high speeds. i normally run a 3 blade mazzco 14 1/2" 26p.

I have been running with a stock XR Max 5, 28 pitch on our Howard 288 Sportdeck for 115 hours with no issues. Easy in and out of the throttles. Pulls really nice with the 600 SCI 50-75mph where we spend the majority of our cruising speed. Good Luck!

I tried one on my 247xs when I was prop testing. It was a 25p high5. It was terrible, I had to perform an S maneuver to get up on plane and the slightest chop would cause it to blow out. I honestly thought it was going to be the perfect prop before I ran it.

I now run a labbed 26P bravo 4b, but am considering switching to a power tech vented 4b in a 26p to see if I can pick up a couple hundred extra rpms

Just swapped a 31 modded 5 blade maximus (thanks @relaxalot !!!) in place of a 32 Bravo on my buddies 30 raptor. Huge difference, boat comes on plane easier and waaaaay less midrange prop slip when running heavy loads with people in the open bow. Haven’t tested light load / top end speed yet but for all around cruising its worlds better. Stage IV 600sci with an SCX upper / SC lower

High fives don't count as real five blades.
They are smaller diameter i thought? Had 1 on a 350 alpha 1 and worked good but no go on a bravo was what I was thinking. Ski prop for lower horsepower.

I have had 5 blades on my last 2 boats. 28 eagle with a hill pleasure 5 blade and the current lavey 2750 with a cutting edge 5 blade. The max 5 would be a step above. I have my drive inspected and serviced every year and have not had any issues.

I run a 30 p 4 Blade bravo as my hot rod prop at 6300 on my 25 daytona. Good all around prop with 860 hp.
With that said my 28 p 5 blade SL is my favorite all around go to prop for the heat and full load of people or full fuel at lake Powell. 5 mph faster at 3200 rpm. Top speed is down 6-7 mph from the 4 blade 30 but don’t care. The 5 blade planes out easier and faster with less rpm. I’m an running a scx upper and sc lower with 50 hrs on a brand new drive. Oil looks great every service interval.

I have a 28 Maximus and just installed a 30 Max 5. Love the Max5 definitely worth the money. I have a F26 with scx /sc. I did have a clutch issue recently, but was told that the Imco scx uppers did have several revisions to the clutch.

Are you interested in selling the 28?

What was your prop slip before and after? I have SCX upper/lower and looking to reduce my prop slip. Thxs

Unfortunately by Buddy is not very “scientific” lol.
But the mid range slip before was ridiculous when the boat was running heavy. He easily dropped 1000 rpm between 35-50 mph

Think of it this way...the most efficient prop would be the largest diameter, slowest moving, one blade prop. Try the higgest gear ratio first...biggest diameter first...fewest number of blades first. If you end up with a fast 5 blade its because a 4 blade didn’t work. They eat drives on reentry not just driving around.

My dad had a 5 blade on his 29 nordic deck with a 1100 hp behind a xr, then sc, then scx.

He babied the shit out of it coming on plane. Blew up the xr and sc (lower gear sets) and switched to scx and never had a problem after that.

We were told by imco the 5 blade killed the previous two drives. Way to hard on it with a big heavy load and a lot of a hp/tq we had.

Great cruising prop. Cruised very nice. Top speed was down 4 mph from the sc vs scx. And almost 8 mph from a 4 blade bravo prop we tried.

I use a hill signature pleasure 5 I think 20 pitch. Great prop for cruising and towing.

Imco outdrive, with a lightly massaged 454.

1994 eliminator eagle 250 mid cabin open now.

I have a 496ho and am only turning a 24P 5 blade. It spins it to about 5k RPM in the right conditions. Probably would have been better with a 23P. What you can spin depends on what 5 blade you use. Teague will tell you if you buy a max 5 get the same pitch as you use in a bravo 1.

Makes sense as my bravo 1 is a 21 pitch.

What are you thinking? Just rebuilt my motor and added a -2 lower and believe a 5 blade might be right path. Where is prop located?

I realize all of this is based on load but the goal is 60-70 cruising with less RPM than the 4B 26 needs with only my family (2 adults, 2 kids) 1/2 to full fuel, bimini up and still be able to hit the limiter (with the bimini down). We also have a lab 27 for light days, it won't turn stock or lab 28 based on prop X, unless we change to a $horty. We tested the 25 and 27 max 5 with Teague. They didn't have a 26 at the time for us. Hit the limiter fast on the 25 and couldn't get to it with the 27, both were 15 1/4. Trying a Hill 26, slightly bigger at 15 11/16. We shall see, should the sweet spot I hope.

The max 5 gives a lot of bow lift and kind of a lot of over all lift in the 2750. I have not tried that style 5 blade from hill, the last one i had was more of a round ear. Thats quite a jump in diameter but may work just right. The guys at hill usually know what there talking about. All I can say is if your over propped in a 2750 its a handful, you will turn right back around and change it. If the hill doesnt work i am confident the 26P max 5 would get it done for you. Im sure i don’t have to mention it but i would not be mashing the throttle to get on plane, i would push it to 3000-3400 rpm and let the prop do the work.

You need more motor. A 2750 loaded and you want to cruise 60-70?

Shouldn't be to far off. not loaded the 2750 turns 70mph with a 496ho and 82mph with a 525. 70 cruise would probably be a stretch though. Depends on ones opinion of what rpm cruise is.

Just some insight. I can not use my five blade when I have all my camping gear for multiple days 3 100# dogs and wife and kids full on fuel. Boat gives me the big middle finger. For that I drop to my 4 blade. That's my fully loaded and no I ain't even touching 60 but I karate chop the heck out of rough wakes.

What prop are you running? Shockwave put a Bravo 30p on mine and it runs pretty good but I'm getting around 22% prop slip with it....

I would try a Maximus 28 likely to drop your slip to 12-14 just a guess. I don't have any real world test results but 22 % should be improvable.

I have a Maximus 5 blade , 30 pitch . but it’s been to the prop shop at least 4 times to get it right . I’m not really interested in top end that much , so it’s tuned for midrange . I can cruise at 60 all day and the engine is barely turning over , but it pops right on plane . Of course , engine is a Whippled 565 CI . Oh , I have an SCX drive , so I’m not worried about it granading . An XR with a 5 blade , heavy boat and some HP , I’d be worried .

I'd like to get $1,500.00 each for them. They are in Havasu.
