what is the most angle I could have on my driveshaft (from the Velvet drive to the V-drive).

Anyone have any recommendations?

The engine crankshaft and the input shaft to the gear box should be parallel.

Got Chromed out in Compton. Vernes was expensive, but they did a really good job cleaning up these old parts.

New motor rails.... Main reason was to drop the motor without cutting the timing cover motor mount. Will also give more strength and cleaner options for mounting the velvet drive and oil cooler.

Just a quick update on some steering installed this weekend.
Once I have everything installed I am going to trim everything up. But for now you guys have to deal with fucked bolts and extra beef on plates.

Yes sir. Just hard to find some that are worth cutting the holes in the dash.
- another opinion was to leave it without guages on the dash and have a stripped Schiada logo instead. Then make a stringer bracket for a couple gauges... not sure which way I am going yet.

Rear steering pulleys are mocked up.
1/2" bolt, 3/4" tubing for spacers & nylon spacers. Pulleys are spinning smooth as a babys butt and no cable rubbing. I cant wait to see this all polished up.

More Bling Bling. Just need to get some button head bolts instead of the tapered.

FYI: I was in Aussiland for 2.5 weeks, I am back now & motivated to get this moving forward.

Got the turn fins, shaft log and strut all finished up! Thanks to Andrew and Chuck for the help. Hopefully the ball starts rolling now that the boat is back in the boat room.

I notice there is no means of mounting a cavitation plate--are you going to try and run it without one? Are you not worried about the boat "hopping" without a plate of some kind?

Older wood boats didn't run Cav Plates. If it has a wicked hop, he'll probably just mount fixed cav plates to eliminate that issue.

Greg...I'm old so I have lots of opinions..don't do the FNR Casale..they are cumbersome and act like your banging gears. Put a velvet drive in it...they are from the era and work like glass..I can find you the top loader but I think it would be mistake.

For explanation let me try to explain...the crash box reverse is a bang...and then a roll over the transom wave...the velvet drive and be slipped in and out and no bang or wave over the back...SMOOTH operation..JMO..worth five cents
I agree with Rattle can Lou, my brother has a FNR Casale in his 65 Schiada and it is a nightmare compared to the velvet drive in my 70 Schiada miniDC. It's in the name VELVET drive. Soooooo smooth.

Sorry, didn't realize how old the OP was. My bad, well past that point by now. Forgive me, it's late and I'm a dumb ass.

Have not posted in a long time... but shit has been getting done as of late. Most of the things getting knocked out are just the small things that take time and get over looked.

- 1/2 way done with waterlines. Black hose and stainless fittings from Teague.
- Started the hard line for the fuel last Sat. Had to pick up the Rigid 37 degree flare tool for the shop. Hard lines are pretty tough, but they look 10x better. I got the Banjo from https://www.purechoicemotorsports.com/ . Guy is out of Havasu. I plan to install the fuel filter and fuel pump Wed. night then finish the hard line.
- Got the scoop from Mooneyes.
- Alternator and bracket from D21.

Got most of the motor parts I made polished up. Got the tanks mounted and plumbed up. Throttle cable knocked out.

Up next:
Wiring & Gauges
shifter linkage
wire up coil.

Well... the old girl had a heart beat this weekend.

My Uncle Bruce wired the boat the past 2 Saturdays. With a little bit of timing adjustment Bruce, Andrew, Papa, Dad and I got her fired up. The old girl lit up and sounded great. No fuel leaks in the hard lines... thank god. I did have a small water leak. But easy fix.

Andrew tried to film the fire up, but it looks like it was filmed from the Flintstones era. Here is a pic of the shifter, starter switch and gauges I installed last week.

Next is to cut the prop shaft down and key it. I also need to find a 3 blade stainless prop. If anyone has one I can try out let me know.
