With todays little roots type superchargers and the right cam and carburation, what hp range would be produced setup for non-race sportsman fun boat? Oh not FI. Curious.

572 and small roots (671) is not a good combo. Bigger motor needs a bigger blower 10-71 so it doesn’t build heat. 1,000hp easy

Didn't dyno mine but with the combo I built its almost identical to the Teague 1050 motors. Those make well over 1100hp per the conversations I had when I bought all of the valve train from them. It's 572 new build with a 14-71 on 10lbs of boost.

The EFI'd NA572 in my buddies Baja makes around 850.

If I were you I'd spend the money on a Whipple setup. Old school is just that, old. Will do the job but leaves a lot on the table vs new tech blowers with an EFI setup.

So what does 1000-ish hp do (mph) in a 20 footer? What about the 24?

I have a Spectra 20 (Catalina Ski Race Boat-MoonShine) with (Gentry Twin Turbo BBC I think 468 cubic inch) and
Was told By the guys I bought the boat from they got high 90’s with 900+ HP and 2 blade prop.
Best mph I have seen is low 80’s with 3 blade. Brent

Family Friend of ours had a 24XS with around 1000-1100 hp Turbo setup in it and a Casale Drive. It would run mid 80's with a 3 blade Menkins.

Greg's 20' that 78Southwind re-assembled and went through after he bought it was 100MPH+ boat when it had a 2blade on it from what I heard and read around here.

Pretty sure it was around 1000-1100 HP.

Rumor's of a few 24XS that were 100MPH+ but no one ever seemed to come up with proof, farmo83 as he says knew of a pretty built one that was 80's.

I’d like to build a 24xs with a Whipple 500hp EFI. I just wish it would do more than 60.

Yea, a I/O stock 330 hp merc runs right around that, a 500HP motor would probably see mid 70's, if you were gentle with the B1... most had the volvo penta drive, I hear this and that about them being good to around 500hp but have never played with one to see.

So...stupid question...why is an I/o faster for a given amount of hp? Is there more propulsion related drag on a v-drive setup, or is an I/o just more capable of getting the hull out of the water? I know it will be all of the above, but looking for some insight
