I am in the middle of customizing a new Nordic 29 deck and would like to know if I should go with the 600sci or 700sci. I have heard that the 600 is like the 700 but I would really like to know what the difference is.

I have the 600 with stage II. You’ll upgrade the 600 so just bite the bullet and get a 700 and not worry about the drive and prop upgrades.

Get the 600 if you boat where only 87 is available. If 91 is readily available, then get the 700 and dont look back. The only reason the 600 mill exists is for people who boat at lakes that have fuel docks that dont understand hot boats (read: Lake Arrowhead).

What’s your current set-up and driving style? The 600 is a great package and should give the Nordic plenty of power to get out of the way. The old “no one wants to go fast in a deck boat except the driver” is real. If you’re chasing speed and plan to keep pushing it then start with the 700. As mentioned, you’ll get the drive and externals to start the chase.

My current set up is a 5.0 mercruiser, and I usually would go up the river or to havasu springs but I just don’t like how choppy the water is and how clustered I am with other boats going full throttle and only going 45mph

The Nordic with either package will run pretty good. 600 should push it into the low-80’s, loaded and in the middle of summer. Not sure how much more the 700 will provide with the bigger drive. If you’re leaving the 700 stock it would be a tough sell. If you’re going to add a stage 3/4 kit later and chase the 150-200hp then it’s the way to go. I’d double check insurance costs if you’re planning to go that route.

Merc 600 = Bravo style drive.

Merc 700 = M6 drive as the nxt is gone.

You can get 750 even 800 i believe from the 600,but you’ll need to upgrade the drive accordingly when you do. With the 700 you can go to i believe 900+ and only need to keep buying bigger props, at similar cost of upgrading the Bravo style drive.

If you plan to keep it forever I’d probably go 700, regardless of upgradability, but if you think it’s a 2-5 year boat I’d go 600 myself.

Not sure if Merc will sell you the engine without the drive as they love forcing the package deal, but pairing up either the 600 or 700 with an Imco SCX will mean no drive upgrades regardless of the stock engine and even if you bumped up either by 150-200 ponies. Just make sure the engine idles low enough for the cone clutch.

I run an Imco SCX (upper and lower) with a TCM975/1025 and have had zero issues with the drive behind that kind of power.

Anyone have pictures of a Nordic 29 with a #6 drive?
