Picked up this beauty last year and got a season out of it before the bottom end burnt up. The crank journal/rod bearings were toasted on cylinders 1/2 and 5/6. I'm thinking an oiling issue and lack of previous maintenance was the main cause. Either way it sets me up for a build that will make this boat tailored to my style. Here she is when purchased and I was able to find the Hotboat mag article she was featured in.

The old set up was a B&M 174 blower on a Gen 6 454. I'm going to a 496 lower compression motor for reliability. I also wanted to keep the blower set up. Block was machined last week and is going in for a balance this week. Some of the goodies include. Dart Pro 1 119cc/345cc Aluminum heads, K1 crank, JE pistons, Isky lifters, K1 rods, comp cam rockers, canton 10 qrt pan, and a custom ground cam.

This should give me the needed power to move this pig along. I'm shooting for 600 plus HP range. Here are some pics of the tear down. Engine machinist noticed a lot of sand in the block, I will be running a sea strainer so hopefully this helps with some of those issues.

While everything is out I decided I might as well update the interior/stereo along with a new belly tank. Let the snowball begin. This hull rides amazing but they tend to rock a bit. I talked to a guy with a 96 hull and said that the belly tank is a must. So I cut a big ass hole in the center of the floor. I took some measurements and I'll have a good friend model it up in CAD then have it laser cut/bent for about $300 total. Then I'll need a good tig welder. IMCO quoted me $1200 which was the cheapest out of the 4 quotes. Old set up had two 32 gal tanks. The new belly should be around 80 gallons.

I plan on opening up the interior side panels a bit more for storage and updating the front seats to a more modern look. I also need to decide if I should stick with carpet or go with gatorstep.

Did you run it in Havasu? I think I saw it a couple times at Windsor last summer. Great looking boat!

Nice move on the tank change. I'd add an extra baffle to slow the slosh on that big tank.

Love that hull, such great lines. I’d love to get one like that.

do you have finished pics of the floor ? I am doing my caliber 1 206 skier and would like to do something different than the carpet. I just finished replacing the floor and have it all glassed up ready for next step. I love the idea of gator step, or seadack something to update the look. just not sure how it would look

I've only had it on Havasu once and that was for desert storm last year. I have a place in Parker so that's where a majority of my boating is done. I do plan on more Havasu day runs though.

I plan on running a few baffles, prob every foot. I'm reading as much as I can on other set ups.

Not yet, I will decide on whether I go the gator step route once I glass in the new floor. If I go that route then I would have the interior gelled so the gator has a nice smooth mating surface. I'm not a fan of the splatter paint either so I would have all of that covered in a smooth white or red. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

These guys also have a lot of information on flooring options. http://deckmarine.es/Producto/

Here is a photo of an install I thought was pretty interesting although in Europe.

Some progress this weekend. I sanded and wire wheeled the old carpet glue off the floor boards. Even being completely covered from head to toe in gear I still managed to get itchy in places you need 3 mirrors to see. I totally get why snap in carpet became a trend. Belly tank is in mock up phase and the engine is getting closer to final assembly. I also started on the interior panels. I opened up one of the covey holes to give us some more storage space. I'm going to pick up some marine plywood today for the new floor and interior panel build out. I've also decided that the interior floor will be gelled white with gatorstep.

The tank had its final rendering and is ready for laser/cut this week. I also got all of the interior side panel inserts finished along with the new floor mock up. I will cut an access into the new floor so the fill and pick up are accessible. I'm also running a dual fill from each side, this way I can pull up in any position to get fuel.

Some of the stereo parts are starting to trickle in. I will be running a JL 12" sub in the bow, 4 - JL 7.7" in the panels and 2 - JL 8.8" in the rear seat base. And finally spoke with the interior guy I found and he does all of Howard's boats now!

Built a new rear seat base, the old one was a mess. Interior was dropped of last week and I have most of the inserts finished for the side panels. One of the engine compartment rear panels will hold 4-5.5" x 20" bumpers with the other side being storage. All the interior panels will be ready this week for drop off. Now for resin and glass.

I’m about to start a refresh on my 95 Hallett 240, where did you get the JL products? Stereo is this summers upgrade and usually use Crutchfield n Google but always open to new unknown sources to save money [emoji57]

I'm definitely one for a deal, but doing all the searching I could, Crutchfield was the best pricing I could find plus I received free shipping. The customer service was awesome and they set me up just right. I also went with JL which tends to be on the higher side. Rockford amps for power. In total I will have a 1500 watt system.

I am, but I lucked out because the old system was already in place. My sub and speaker amps were still great. So I just had to buy an amp for the 8.8's and a wire kit and move the sub to the bow. Wiring up the head unit is easy.

My HTM I purchased used came with a big block with a B&M 174. It screamed, lol, and I think it was at 6psi. I put a Superchiller on it and did a pulley change to 8psi I believe, but they just work too hard and introduce too much heat. Anyway you could get yourself a 671 or 871? Mine had a single carb also. Bitchen boat!!!

I am literally waiting for everything to get finished up. (engine, interior, fuel tank) I was told the interior will be done by June 6. My fuel tank should be done this week. I had to purchase a new intake manifold so when the manifold arrives I will get to bring my engine home. I have my gel guy set up for next week to spray the interior floors once the tank goes in. I had a new windscreen made while I was waiting and I'm picking those up today. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I'm keeping the PSI to 6lbs. I cant run a chiller because of clearance issues with the hatch, which is also why im not running a bigger blower. I like the low profile hatch. It makes for a nice lounge when floating. :)

I couldn't agree more. I'm trying to stay within "budget", whatever the hell that means. Since I had this set up I decided to keep it. The blower shop has a nice low pro marine set up as well. I will def. upgrade in the near future.

Engine is back and ready for some assembly. I need to get the valve covers off to powder once I get everything mocked up. Picking up the tank today and then the hull is off for gel!

Tank is here and tacked. Checking fitment and then its off to TIG and pressure test. If I can get the tank mounted in the next few days I can get the boat off for gel! IMCO wanted $1,200 and I'm in this tank for $800. It's good to know people.

Are these baffles enough to minimize fuel slosh and blowing out welds or are you also using the foam inserts?

I'm having a cut and buff done to the exterior and white gel laid down for the flooring. This will give a clean surface for the gatorstep.

Picked up the interior Tuesday. Glassing in the tank and floor over the next few days. I need to cut out the cup holder, speaker and LED light sections of the interior to give it more character.

That's correct. I will have a false floor in the seat base so I can stack life vest and anything else under the seat. Remove the floor and I can access the fills or sending unit.

I guess Imco wasn't that far off from quoting $1200 to what you have in the tank for $800. $400 is still $400 saved....
