Do yourself a favor and put the Cognito motorsports pitman/idler arm correction kit on there. You will never have to deal with the intermediate steering shaft, the tire wear correction will pay for itself and it will steer/feel like a dream...
My truck has this, Fox Shocks and bags on the back and I swear it is the best riding and driving truck I've ever owned (and I've owned a lot). The difference is crazy nice. I want to lift it and go 37 or 39's but I just don't know if I can give up the comfy ride.

It steers fine, has no tire wear issues and the steering shaft was dealt with under warranty 100,000 miles back. Why do I need Cognito's idler arm?
The leveling keys make the truck ride much worse. Is there a fix for that? Special shocks or something?

The idler arm has a design defect, in that it has movement because it is in single shear. That ever so slight movement increases with wear. The first sign is some cupping on the passenger side tire. The correction kit puts both the pitman and idler in double shear and tightens the feel noticeably. I went 120K miles in my 05 CC longbed under the impression everything was fine and I had no reason to do anything but maintain the factory front end components. BUT I did notice that I had to keep up with tire rotations and even had discount warranty a tire because of a "defect" (turns out it was just good customer service on their part)...

Keys and turning up the torsion bars... They work against you unless you change the upper control arm to properly center the travel geometry when using torsion to level the front end... Without upper control arms you make the front end have like a 70/30 range of motion instead of a more proper 50/50.

I am total old school and never had any intention to mess with the factory suspension. But I got a wide hair and decide to level the truck at 120K miles. All Cognito stuff upper CA, keys and Steering correction. Did the tie rods etc all at one time with fox shocks.... Truck has 187K now on it and the new suspension components made a wonderful change to the tight and quiet positive feel to the steering an suspension. Out of all that work I think the steering correction is the best money spent in my experience.

I pulled the overload spring out back and replaced it with a deaver progressive on air bags. That has nothing to do with the front end but I will just throw it out there....

The reason I pointed it out on your truck is that you drive a "full size" truck. CrewCab long bed... not the small trucks other people are posting with the little back part.

Consider it when you replace the tires next time. Also you are approaching the time when people start to see the front hubs go bad etc.. depending on tire size and driving habits etc... so if you end up doing any major repairs upfront that is when I would consider adding the pitman/idler upgrade. I am not saying to go slap it in and be amazed. It’s really how you protect and enhance the next time you do any major repairs.

My 05 drives really nice and it’s why I still have it even though I daily drive a Ram 2500. I think it will out last my Ram.

Since we are on the camper theme.... I still have this truck tent that fits a long bed. We used it once. I’d sell it for cheap.

We blew up two air mattresses which matched the wheel well height. My then girlfriend, now wife, hung a lantern inside and was so excited because it looked "cute" but as soon as we laid down I said turn that off! The stars took her by surprise through the netted tent roof (yes the tent has seen some action, it’s a true veteran even with its single tour). A great memory we talk about at least once a year but I didn’t buy a long bed on the last go round... she wanted a fifth wheel so there is that.

The Tahiti TRUCK. My GM mechanic buddy told me get an LBZ. So I found an 06 4x4 at some sketchy torrance car auction deal. Best deal I ever did, back tags in all. She is dirty, headliner dipping, paint sucks, but runs hard. Love this truck. Will keep it forever in the company. No DEF, No ford 6.0L bulletproof deal. Just oil changes and fuel filters.
220K miles of towing boats and picking up fuel tanks.

I will be putting my 2006 3/4 ton 8.1 Suburban up for sale here shortly if anyone is looking for a nice tow vehicle.
2WD 94,000 miles one owner. LT all options except navigation View attachment 875734
That’s a seriously nice tow/family hauler! If it were 4wd I’d have already handed you the cash, only because of my personal principles. Might want to list a price or slap that sexy Burb up in the for sale section.

Your 06 Chevy is only half way wore out, and there is probably no payment. I have a 03 with 170K miles running strong, with no payments and the Insurance is lower than a newer one.

I'll play! 😁 Sunday mid-afternoon, 15 miles east of Desert Center.

We were heading back from the river with a truckload of kids and dogs, and this old sled decided to spill all of its coolant on I-10. It wasn't my fault!

Ordered mt GMC from the factory in December of '02. It is an 8.1 with every conceivable option (in a few years they would come out with the Denali edition that would be an equivalent). I may have the only one with a factory power moon roof because it was not an option on trucks in '03 but was on Suburbans and Yukons. I have a Diablo Sport tuner with 3 tunes based upon what I'm towing (or not). Also a K&N Cold air and Stainless Works tuned long tube headers. The only things I've had to replace are the brakes at 130,000 miles, fuel filter once, crank trigger sensor, plugs and wires twice, driver's seat leather, and evap canister sensor. I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I'm about a year or two from a full paint myself. Good to see you were able to get it cleaned back up quickly.
It definitely took some time and a lot of effort, I replaced the door handles with the keyless types, while I was in there I replaced the window motors and lock actuators. It's like a new truck inside now.

^^^^ That's such a beautiful truck! It reminds me of the one Stayin on Top built in his garage.

I kick myself in the ass for selling our 05 tahoe. Traded it for an 2010. The 2010 was a piece of crap.

65k miles. 2/4 drop. Boss 20s. Ltz interior. Flow master with turn down.
FB_IMG_1669689053828.jpg

Traded for this one :(
