Okay this is what happens in Pennsylvania when the weather sucks ass on Memorial day weekend.
I have a 30 X 40 toy garage/workshop that I built in late 2016. At this point, it's basically a when time and money are available to get it finished project. I recently had a guy here to finish the drywall and I've been painting it myself. I would like to do something cool that's not one solid color so, I've been searching the net for inspiration and decided on a white on top with some red and grey (or is that gray) on the bottom. Here's a few PC generated options I've been kicking around along with the current status. The base color is white even though it's looks a little dark in the photo.

What do you guys think- A,BC,D,E or F??

Since this photo, I cleaned up the sill plate at the bottom and primered it. I also have some good paint for the block foundation in a grey- it was a little wet when this photo was taken. Also, I was planning to wrap the windows in solid wood, well, at least that was until the price of lumber sky rocketed.

Current status:

Plan A- honestly this is my favorite but would like to hear your opinions. I had to make the receptacles that way so the grey didn't cover them.

Plan B- 2 stripes near the bottom.

Plan C- Red and grey stripes:

Plan D- One red stripe only
IMG_1849_D1.jpg

Plan E- Similar to A except no white between the red and grey

Last but not least plan F- 2 red stripes

The red and grey colors make me think "Toyota" corporate colors, especially if you add white between them in A.
Not that it's an unattractive combo, it's just what I'd think each time I looked at it. This is what I'd see.

Lol, I suppose I haven't lost all my automobile business brain, went through a shitload of "corp dealership design" crap with both my BMW & SAAB stores.

E but I would put the red stripe at the outlet hight. Change the outlets to red and it would look killer.

We did a light grey stripe at outlet hight with matching grey outlets, a dark grey bottom, and black rubber baseboards. No regrets and looks clean even after 10+ years.

The more white the brighter it’ll be, i did 4’ of gray with a 6” blue stripe and non tinted white on top in my garage a few years back.

I was thinking GM dealership! LoL

For me it would be, none of the above. Unless you want it to look like a dealership service bay.

If so, go all in with A. 👍

I like plan E but don’t go as high up, take the gray up to countertop level and have the red stripe as if it were a backsplash. 🤷‍♀️

Have @Gelcoater help you, he loves to tape shit 😂

I thought the same - Run the red line, of either design A or E through the center line of the receptacles and match them to the paint. My garage has one red wall and the others are gray.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions guys!

I didn’t realize the colors were Toyota colors. I’m actually a Ford guy but my jet boat has a BBC.
I’m still kicking the ideas around but will try to decide soon. I will admit that this garage will never be like the show quality garages some of you guys have or that you see online. I was just thinking it wouldn’t be a lot of time or money to add a little something to the plain white walls.

I’ll post pics when finally done. It’s my daughter’s softball season now so time is limited.

I would just do white with the lower grey and match the outlets to the color of the wall they are in but I'm a plain Jane type. The red is too much. I've had a shop painted like this before for a customer and it did feel like a Toyota dealership but was actually a Fiat facility. The red took like 6 coats out of an airless sprayer to get complete coverage.

That sort of gives the illusion that there is a hallway going left at that corner. Interesting but I’m not sure I would want my garage playing tricks on my mind.

HA HA HA --- Sorry, I only altered the left side of the image, the right side being the original plan A --- Despite it actually being shall we say --- different and the hallway illusion I hadn't noticed 🤔-- My OCD would never, ever allow that in the real world. 😁 Thanks for bringing it to my attention, now I'm thinking that would make an interesting conversation piece 😂

Do parents still make their kids stand in the corner? That would be great. Just point to the arrow. “You earned a half hour you little shithead!” :p

I think the kids today call their lawyers or CPS and have the parents locked up. I dunno, my youngest "Kid" is 46 😂
