Safe trip to Alamo. Good and bad news is there’s no cell service unless you do a quick hike. Great tip so far. @bpracing had an “interesting” yet successful route for us. Day/night ride planned with the Wayside team today.

Here’s a handful from yesterday. Sorry about the sideways shots.
Had a blast driving to the waterfall, canyons and old gravesite. Wayside Dave booked us up and acted as the tour guide for the day. Hell of a trip so far. Tons of miles and some great trail riding. The band at Wayside was a great way to end the night.

I took 100 photos but this is the only one that survived. Sorry Brian. We have all been there and that is some good nap time. Thanks to all for a great time and hospitality. It was great to meet you all. Until next time...

Ok so as “camp leader” aka “supreme leader” here is my story.

loaded up my truck and caravanned with @LargeOrangeFont. I had my own problems from the get go as my truck was overheating the entire way out there. We filled it with water every 60-70 miles and eventually made it in time to get it to the dealer Thursday night. We stayed at @DLC house (thanks again) and started drinking that night. All of us prepping our rides for the big group ride in the morning. We were to meet @RiverDave house by 9:00 am. I’m pretty sure we were all on time this year and the trip was going to get off to a good start time compared to years past.
DACAB2D8-2EFC-4721-8E31-91D996ABA227.jpeg

we got going and picked up “crazy jimmy” @01erionracing at the concrete plant and got going. Took a side shoot off std wash to get us to mohave wash. First stop was about 8 miles into the ride simply to check the pack jobs and any loose nuts from the washboard. All was well but we must partake in a beer right

rare moment where Dave didn’t want a beer. I thought he was going liberal or something.

Don and Joe can be seen here with their family’s @DWC @Bails

Next stop was “woody’s” cabin as a lot have not been there and only to Kevin’s cabin. The washboard was making people crazy and 20 miles into our 100 mile ride people were over it lol. As supreme leader I assured them that was the last of the washboard and it would only get better from here on out or so we thought.

We then took mohave wash to a pole line road I call it Disney land road as if your machine is set up and dialed it’s full of jumps and banked turns. I haul ass and was catching air a lot as I was a solo passenger in my car.

“Disney land road” starts with a giant spider
F3750A5D-19C4-4A74-8E42-9324377AB1D6.jpeg

From Disney land road. You turn right onto the graded dirt road to take you through planet ranch with was completely dry as the water was under the ground. All gates were open thanks to the peace trail working with the ranchers in the area we respected the speed limits and kept the dust down as much as possible in that area at least.

Dave and Stacy for a good photo op

After that we ended up on the “parker 425” course for some time which was already beat up from the Parker 250 held a week ago or so. That was a lot of fun driving full tilt through there. Really dusty however. As supreme leader I was unaffected by the dust at this point.

We stopped for lunch about 40 miles into our 100 mile ride. It was about 1:00 pm az time at this point.

We stopped at Swansea for an extended beer break also to check it out. Most of us have never been. Dave used to come as a teenager and do hooligan stuff there.

Swansea is a old mining town and the buildings are from the early 1900’s most have barely any foundation left. Pretty cool nonetheless.

From there we headed on a “gas line road” this was an above ground gas line and was a bit slower and technical for 10 miles or so. Was kinda nice to change things up too. I don’t have any picture of it but pretty cool views from there. After gas line road we entered “Lewis and Clark” trail. This was an offshoot I planned and from google earth looked like a decent trail. I guess the picture from google earth was taken when Lewis and Clark actually traveled the trail because once we got on it, it was apparent that no one had been on it since they traveled on it. First 100 feet into the trail was a 6 ft bush that I laid over for the group. Barely any track to even follow at this point. People were seriously doubting my navigation skills at this point and I sensed a mutiny coming. Right about then the trail ended and we were on a new gas line road that was in good shape. We took that up and over the hill to a pole line road which seemed to be everyone’s favorite road of the trip as it was very tight. Sandy and on the gas driving fun. From here gas mileage was starting to become and issue and most filled up their cans they brought. We were about 15 miles out from wayside and it was sunset. We decided to take the highway in the rest of the way to save on time. All of us got gas at wayside and made it the state park (about 10 miles away) just in time for dinner at 7:00 pm.

first night was burgers and hot dogs

Here is Don helping cook for the group of 27 people

Looks like a fun time, where are the rest of the pix?!

@Bpracing1127 when you map out your rides, are you looking at Google Earth at trails, mapping and then saving them as a GPX file to overlay and use in an app like Lead Nav?

Anyone else beat up from the feet up.. Stacy is all jacked up. Sprained ankle, sprained wrist, knot on her head.. lol.

Strangely my broken ankle leg is soar, and I’m pretty sure my liver is bruised..

Ian did an excellent job of routing again this year (sans the Lewis and Clarke adventures)..

Had a blast drinking at wayside Saturday night!

Our sub group of Don, myself, Chris and Joe are now bonded for life..

I have hundreds of pics and Stacy does as well. I’ll upload throughout the day and tonight.
keep your adventure story coming Ian! For us in the rear it’s hard to know all the ins and outs when we were just following.

This leads us up to Ian’s story so far from my perspective

I would say everyone brought enough stuff. (There was more added after this pic.. lol

What a trip! I had so much fun I cant even begin. Yes @RiverDave Im sore as hell too! Ironically though the ride helped my back!

Shout Outs
  • Thanks @LargeOrangeFont and @Bpracing1127 for setting this up, getting food, planning routes and all around being great hosts.
  • Thanks @RiverDave and @RiverDiva for loaning the trailer and Stacy for the White Girl tacos at the end of the Ride and Dave for the Miracle Whip tip!
  • Met so many great people. We were actually talking about it back at @DLC house. Not ONE person was being "uptite" or throwing "attitudes". Everyone was GREAT people to chat to and just all like minded. It was amazing for such a large group we had.
  • Dave, Don, Joe and Myself : Thanks for having a great riding group in the back. We communicated well and we had a great pace with not killing our machines. Appreciate it Fellas.
  • Wayside Dave and Laura the owners of Wayside, thanks so much if youre reading. We made me feel like family.
  • @DLC for loaning me your parking and hospitality.
My Stories
  • The Wayside Bar on Saturday night was EPIC! I got in my car and told @DLC to hop in. We cruised over and Im sure glad we did. RD and Crew were up ahead of us. Wayside is such a GREAT place. You feel (are) at a Ranch with real cowboys. The beer is cheap and vibe is amazing. RD is great at pool. And the Band was these older guys that were just friendly and played all the old country. Reminded me growing up.
  • Needless to say, Saturday took a toll on me. Sunday morning was hell! LOL....I wasn't the only one. But the Wayside Biscuits and Gravy helped alot! I honestly wanted to pay someone to take me and my car home! LOL
  • Im surprised no one asked about breakdowns. Only two tired plugs and @LargeOrangeFont threw a belt. Thats it! He had that changed in 10 mins, I didnt even get out of car was so fast. Our machines did amazing!
  • My first night in my tent, (On the porch of a Cabin), I hear some steps outside. Now this tent is more of a cot, so my head is almost out the one end. then I hear horse steps. And yup, you guessed it. Two Donkeys start fighting right outside! Scared the shit out of me. The noises they make is nothing I have heard before!!! Holy Hell. Change of drawers after that one.
There is so much more to write, but today has been hell since my phone pretty much had 0 service (ATT) the whole trip! Kinda nice, but nerve racking on trying to triage work stuff.

Ill write more soon!!!

Heres a video of all my pics. Hope you enjoy!

Thought it was just me. My legs are killing me. Figured it was the numerous hikes up hills to get pics or the shitload of walks to find the perfect cactus to pee on.
Another awesome group this year. No shortage of booze, food or firewood.

Great summary and great times Chris. Steph and I talked about it on the drive home. Truly awesome people on the trip and RDP overall. The times at the camp fire, bar and stops were as fun as the rides.
@Bpracing1127 and @LargeOrangeFont thanks for navigating. Pretty sure I’d be lost somewhere in the desert still.
Can’t wait to get a full nights sleep in my own bed tonight. I need give my liver and body some time to relax.

Day 2 recap

started out with a pancake and sausage breakfast. The bourbon syrup that LOF bought was unreal!!!

prior to the trip I had connected with Dave from Wayside rv Park or aka “wayside Dave” to show us around Alamo. Since we couldn’t cross the rabbit hole yet I didn’t have any points of interest for a ride for Saturday. During our “free” day.

20CFB510-6175-47CC-8EB0-C04FF278AC02.jpeg

Wayside Dave lead us on a 80 mile run to the waterfall, mud canyon and one of 3 gravesites in the area. We all gassed up and hit the road out of wayside. We jumped in a wash all the way to the waterfall East of wayside. The wash was a lot of fun. Parts were rough and technical and parts were fast and smooth.

Now it’s my turn to eat dust

First stop in the wash for a beer break and to figure out radios for some people who joined us for Saturday’s ride. We had 18 cars total on this one.

there are free range cattle out here and they have gates to somewhat keep them contained. There are 4 of these. They are unlocked but if you do go through them please close theM behind you.

This waterfall was bitchen to see. Water was around 50 degree and relatively clear. All sorts of tracks from animal life around there. Coyotes, lions, cattle, deer, bobcats ect....

Joe was the only one who stepped in it. He said he needed a raft and he was good to go

Next stop was mud canyon. Someone asked was mud canyon muddy? The answer is no it’s not. From wayside Dave it’s a old caldera from an ancient volcano that imploded And left a crater. There is no vegitation in the hill sides. We 4x4 out of there on the way to the grave site.

here is the gravesite, these are burials from late 1800 to early 1900’s most are Mexican American or Indian. They don’t know who all of them are but one or two. The post have tags on them but most were not legible.

from here we headed back to wayside gas, then back to state park for showers and dinner.

sat was a lot of fun and without wayside Dave as a guide we would have not been able to see all of this!!! The radio chatter was hilarious about can am vs Polaris and passing people jockeying for posistion. I made a couple of questionable passes. One on large orange font and river dave sticks out tho. I also blew a corner hard and LOF passed me back. Best day of riding in a long time. Beer was flowing hard at the end of the day I was drinking 2 beers between stops then more at the stops.

Now onto day 3. Up until this point we havnt had a single failure on our machines that we beat on hard. I convinced wayside Dave to skip his pheonix run to go to the rabbit hole and show us the way across. He gladly did such that. He got us 99% there dry. The last 300 feet is Not passable to this point.

here we are trying to figure out how to get wayside Dave back out to dry land. He brought 200 ft of chain and rope and Doug had a winch so all was good. Jimmy was our dead man holding Doug

since the rabbit hole was not passable we went back the way we came. It was now around 1:00 pm so we needed to boogie. We did just that and boogied fast!!! We went about 30 miles before stopping due to a flat tire and Doug and plugged up in no time. Jimmy is filling back up too

Next stop was on some graded dirt road right after I blew the berm and put it on 2 wheel and almost cartwheeled into the desert at 60 mph. I got out assed the damage (none) drank a beer and a shot to calm down. Hands were shaking. We were about half way to the highway at this point so need to take a break anyway. We had another flat (damn can ams getting stuck and flats and shit, not to mention slow) we were about the head on Lewis and Clark again this time to stand all the bushes back up.

Here is Joe and his family. His little boy didn’t get an apple (Joe ate it) so I gave him some of my fruit snack and he was a happy camper again

one of the last stops in mohave wash. This part sucked for most!! I love it as my suspension is dialed in and I can haul ass in it. It was super dusty and also dusk, let’s get going.

Daves car is no longer clean and scratched

from dougs house we did 315 miles round trip. 11 cars for the there and back and 18 cars on Saturday. All sorts of terrain from rock crawling to high speed straight roads to twisting flat roads to Disneyland trails and rough as hell washes. Clearly Polaris is faster and will remain that way for time to come. Group meshed extremely well and we all had a great time!! Jimmy with his North Korean noodle were a hit as well. Can’t wait to do it again!!!

Looks like a fun time, where are the rest of the pix?!

@Bpracing1127 when you map out your rides, are you looking at Google Earth at trails, mapping and then saving them as a GPX file to overlay and use in an app like Lead Nav?
Yes that is what I am doing. Takes some practice and learning as you go but yea that is what you do

Thought it was just me. My legs are killing me. Figured it was the numerous hikes up hills to get pics or the shitload of walks to find the perfect cactus to pee on.
Another awesome group this year. No shortage of booze, food or firewood.

I'm doing OK but also didn't extend the party quite as long as some of your guys on Sat night :). Just my shoulders were a little sore from being strapped in by the harnesses for 3 days straight. :)

Great meeting you and Steph!

The last night hurt a few people. I hid at the bar and sipped on silver bullets. Did the matrix to avoid shots all weekend. The ride to wayside was a different ride with RD’s windshield and heated seats. They got added to next year’s wish list.

My right leg is sore. Mostly because i really can’t reach the throttle. :)

The band was a blast. They were the happiest guys I’ve ever seen perform. Even with Brian yelling “Johnny Cash” on a regular basis. Definitely a must do on the next trip.

I agree 100% with everything that has been said so far and EXCELLENT narratives on the day to day adventures. All the food was great, but I gotta say, that may have been the best carne I have ever had, nice work! We had a great time and thank you for having us. (Arriving back in CA at midnight on Sunday may have been a tad miserable, but it was all worth it.)

Oh I do have 1 huge complaint about the trip. None of the zippers on my RZR work anymore. :)

I'm bringing some teflon dry lube next time I go on a long trip like this. It was like a steel cage death match trying to get my soft cooler and door bags closed after every stop on the 2nd and 3rd day..

I have a bunch of great memories from the weekend ride. which one's to share is the question.

first, I'm glad I had Monday off. I'm a little beat up. not quite sure where they are all from but I have cuts, nick's and bruises all over my hands.

Thanks bp (supreme camp leader,) lof for setting this all up and welcoming new people to this adventure. having Dave's trailer saved me as I was camping with my wife and kid and that requires a lot of stuff.
speaking of camping, we're had a tent heater a huge air mattress so I thought we would be warm enough. for the trip I bought a new family size sleeping bag, after this trip I wish I had my own. the funny part, we were on a slight incline and the sleeping bag material and the mattress material formed a magical chemical combo that was slick as snot. So half the bag ended up off the end of the air mattress.

The ride was a blast, once we got far enough from town and lost some of the chatter bumps, which the rzr guys complained incessantly about, it was a fun route. the amount of beer stops on day one was somewhat shocking. we were an hour in and on stop four and even with the wife not drinking I thought I was going to run out of beer.

Speaking of the wife we both decided on day two she should hit the pause button on "dry January". What else are you going to do on all the beer stops. The day 2 run was my favorite, with the exception of one unfortunate incident. the whole weekend I was bringing up the rear, I have a pumper system and didn't mind staying in the back. On day 2 the wash was wide and smooth, when the group followed the leader left, I went right for a nice solo speed run. After 20 minutes or so I popped out in front of wayside Dave, he wasn't sure what was happening so he stopped. River Dave pulled up next to me as we started going again. I didn't want to lose my new leader of the pack spot so I punched it. In doing so, I'm told I dropped a half ton of sand and rocks on Dave's Can Am. More specifically on Stacy and the kids. Dave later told me it didn't bother him as he was behind a windshield, Stacy however was a different story. Now understand, I didn't know the rock slinging had happened. Dave came flying by and Stacy was flying the bird. It wasn't the fun, we just passed you bird, it was the, I'm going to kill you bird.
20200117_131021.jpg

Dave let me know over the radio I had roosted them so at the next stop I apologized profusely and all seemed to be forgivin.

My son had a great time playing in the dirt with the Johnson kids. Dave and Stacy, your kids are fantastic, they were so great with my little guy. My is is almost 5 and was great for 99% of the time, which was better than I hoped for.

overall the ride was a blast, the food was delicious, and the new friends are awesome. I'm sure I'm leaving a bunch out, it's hard to say what was the best part. There was one section on the ride home, long downhill section, I had the Kid Rock playing and I was Tokyo drifting around all the corners with some air mixed in, that was close to perfection. I was smiling ear to ear, the kid was whooping it up and the wife was stoked.

We had so much fun we are thinking about doing the Wayside poker run next month.

I personally didn’t get to see the waterfall because I didn’t want to hike the 100 yds or so up there.. That said even the pond and mud canyon was awesome!

it was also cool to go back and see the dollars from previous years Alamo runs.. I didn’t find Adams dollar but will find it next time.
