Looking to book a guided Salmon/Halibut fishing trip with my father for this summer (if there is availability) or next. I know many of the inmates have been, so I am looking for some recommendations.

If you look on the 'Kenai Peninsula' there are a ton of great options. You have the Kenai River which is known for King Salmon. There are also places like the Kasilof River which can be great for Chinook and Sockeye and the Anchor River which has some really good Steelhead fishing. And if you're into it, there are good places to ocean fish out of Deep Creek and Homer . . . . and if you wanna drive a little ways, you can head over to Seward which is a pretty cool small waterfront town. I've spent a lot of time up there but it's been several years. If you wan't an 'all inclusive' type package, take a look at Sitka Alaska like Kingfisher Lodge (or something similar), They are an ocean based program for salmon, halibut, rock cod, lingcod etc. .

One of the biggest differences to keep in mind is that going to some places like Ketchikan, Sitka, etc. is that they are on big islands and there isn't a lot to see or do other than the fishing, (some sight-seeing) . . . they are small cities in remote areas. Where as with going to a place like Kenai, you'd fly into Anchorage, then either rent a car and drive to the Kenai area (beautiful drive with a glacier to view on the way), or take a commuter plane across the cook inlet (also a killer flight) and rent a car in Kenai.

I guess it kinda boils down to how much leg-work / expense you wanna put into it, and what your intentions are If you want the 'easy' trip with minimal logistics and straight fishing, look at Sitka (or some place similar) . . . . if you wanna see more of the state 'and fish', consider a trip to the Kenai Peninsula.

Just my opinion . . . I think everyone who likes to travel should visit Alaska at least once.

Our lodge is in Sitka. It’s been in a dozen plus tv shows and magazines. My brother in law has a float plane and does fly out fishing trips in additions to salt fishing as well. There is tons to do in the town from shopping to guided hikes etc. The lodge has a full service spa, 10,000 plus bottle wine cellar and kitchen that rivals Michelin diamond rated restaurants

I’ve been fishing up there a couple times for salmon and halibut. But I’m lucky, my sister and BIL live up there and I just went with them. Best fishing in the world in my view..good luck you’ll love it.

Been to both places multiple times depending what you want to spend . I would recommend both places. One all is inclusive one more budget friendly.

Also some lodges were shut down for Covid last season. Not sure how that will be for this year.

North King Lodge. We go every few years, and we're due to go again.

Bessie the beaver float plane on the dock. My brother in law has been flying for flying for 38 years and is a commercial rated pilot and a FAA regional safety liaison for Southeast Alaska

Waterfall resort is badass! I have been a half a dozen times and it's awesome everytime. It's a turn off the century cannery converted into a fishing resort. They have the best boats and guides in Alaska. Would definitely recommend for a full service alaskan fishing experience.

We spent 3 weeks on the Kenai peninsula a few years ago. Rented an RV for the first week, stayed in a B&B in Gustavus and Valdez, and several historic hotels in Juneau.
We ran into a couple from Louisiana who were fishing for a different type of fish every other day. When we met them they had caught their limits on 5 consecutive trips. Everything got canned and shipped home before they left Alaska.

Haaaaaaaa! A dude asked for advice on a fishing trip to Alaska, and was shown some total sally ass spa for chicks. Lol. That’s about 180 degrees to what I would call an Alaskan adventure.

So you missed the bears, airplanes, boats and fish. Oh ok
