I talked to them last year at SEMA. I have thought about putting a Cummins in my 03 3500.

If you have money to burn and time to wait I guess it would be cool. I see this being a headache trying to get all the computer systems to communicate with each other when you switch a tune. I would never do this swap into a truck that makes an income and has to be on the road daily. My buddy is talking about it but investing $10k+ into a 20 year old 7.3 is a turn off.

Interesting that the only difference between the Allison 1000 and the 2000 are helicut gears and the fluid pump.
A lot more to learn beyond the swap.

I could not find any pricing on thier site so i went to thier distributors... for a 99-02 7.3 ford 4wd it was just under 6k ( the dodge kits were 5500 )for thr kit. That is no shipping or tranny. Most decent tranny rebuild shops are 3500-4500 and a 2000 core charge.

New the cheapest i could find was $9300

This sounds like its at least a 15k project to me. I can not see this ever paying off. Even of you never have to replace the tranny again, the milage increase will never make up the cost.

In 1981 a friend's family farm specialized in putting detroits in their f-250 foremens pickups... Big fricken motor for that truck...

We ran a huge AC paddle wheel scraper with twin v12 detroits..

Lol.

And an Allison isn't any better than a built trans those truck come with. It would actually be my last choice.

With 340,000 miles on my Ram 4500 and three Aisin AS68RC Transmissions a "built" 1000 would have been a good option. The conversation parts and a built Alison is going to be expensive no doubt. When the current trans in my trucks warranty expires we will upgrade the truck the new 4500/5500 have the AS69RC a step up from mine and fairly reliable.

We were at a RV Campground in Farmington Utah and a group of farmers surrounded us with their RVs. Nice folks.
All had Cummins/allison conversions in their flatbed tow vehicles and were really happy with them. I should have snapped some pics.

I have there electronics in my k30 with a mechanical Cummins and a 5-speed Works pretty good. Real good people to deal with. Only problem with a Allison conversion is the cost. My 4l80e shifted better but after two broken input shafts that was enough. I would like to upgrade to the 6 speed but after I got 16–17mpg I think it likes it where it is. I have thought about taking the nv4500 out of my bus and doing a 5-speed Allison in it.

I think you can convert a 5 speed into a 6 speed. Not sure how they do that though

What floored me was it was a dealer installed conversion special. The engines had about 1/2" clearance from both the radiator and firewall. Some really old flatbed farm trucks too. Harvest was over, they hooked up the 5th wheels and took their families to camp in Farmington Utah. Nice folk. They brought us corn and other veggies and explained how becoming a Mormon was the way to roll.

$10k-$15k???
It’s not like an Allison is made of magic pixie dust...it’s a medium-duty tranny.

Seems it’s miles cheaper just to build-up the tranny you have.

It makes way more sense to build the one you have. Plus in high HP diesels the Allison is a major issue, it has to perform 2 functions to make a shift when other trans make one.

Yup.

I haven’t stayed in top of diesel tech, but not long ago there were Dodge 48RE’s running behind Duramax’s
