Redoing some components and they have minor pitting, to what grit should I touch up the surfaces prepping for the Ano with random orbit sander?

Depending on how deep they are. If you can see scratches now you will see them after ANO. A grey Scotchbright pad for light pits, maroon for deep.

Why is it pitted? Is it cast? Is it corrosion?
