Those drones were cool. My dad used to work for a company that built them in the 60s. For a while we had a 2cylinder opposed McCulloch drone engine. Always wanted to fire that thing up but he would never let us.
Speaking of drones, you guys ever hear of the battle of Palmdale? Runaway drones.
My first 'real' job out of school was with NUC (Naval Undersea R & D Center) in Pasadena. Most of the items we designed were taken up to China Lake for testing, always a rush to see something you had a hand in designing put to use.
We need moving targets.
Remote control cars?
Too Expensive... Tell you what you get in this truck and we will weld a few trailers together to make a really long one well also weld a couple of pickup beds upright in the back to protect you from flying debris. Tear off down this road and we will shoot the car your carrying off the back.
Not only did they think this up but the guy driving the truck and the dude launching the missile probably said hold my beer at the same time. I love this country.
