You Cheeky Bastard .... so you talked him into selling it to you and now you'll be taking advantage of doing work in house and taking that $100k on BAT. I'm on to ya... following!

I didn't talk him into nothing. I gave him an option and patiently awaited the outcome. My workers were giving me shit he was lonely and that's why he called every month.

Wait till he sees what you're gonna do to his old ride... I know you'll make he and wife smile. Any early thoughts so far?

More than likely just a super clean and sano build. Nothing over the top. 430hp ls3, over drive, 35"s 4" lift. dakota RTX dash and Vintage air. Back to orange and powdercoat the chassis.

Hey Bones random question. I'm really looking to do a 2wd K5, and as you know the prices for even junk is ridiculous. I'm not building this for resale, so I've been thinking about doing a conversion. I've read its not all that hard, have you done one? I figure since I'd do all afterarket suspension anyway, it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

From what I know the frames are the same. The crossmember will bolt in. The rear spring hangers are different. Its been done many times going both ways. I thought about doing one years ago. Luckily I found a real 2wd.

This thing is a cream puff. Minimal rust. Uncut dash. And the floors and rockers are really nice for a 51 year old truck. View attachment 1220739 View attachment 1220740
Boy that looks solid.... for years it was rare to get one that hasn't been in Pacific Northwest ... Like you said, this is a pure SoCal beast.

Just another investment. It will be built and sold eventually. I have been joking with the two girls I have working for me. Let them build it and put it on youtube. I told them I could put on a wig and we could have three girls garage.
Could be kind of fun.

FWIW, I owned a stock '78 with a 4 speed . I swear the granny gear would let it climb a tree. The '91 with the automatic was great to pull th 21'. Both were used as daily drivers and enjoyed by all.

Did you start this build from the beginning? Details please.
This was a decent running driving car when we started. Was supposed to be some updates to make it better. Efi, air ride, just clean up some stuff. Well in standard project fashion, it went sideways as soon as it showed up. 5.0 coyote 10 speed swap. Full paint and the whole 9 yards.

Just a Monday update. The 32 we did the Hilborns on a few years ago. It’s back to make it run again after he messed up a few things. The orange 58 fleet side we did all the fab work on a while ago and he took it to his painter. It’s back for final assembly and make it run. The 69 Camaro we are close to done on. All new DSE suspension front and rear. 427 ls crate engine 5 speed. Just ordered the wheels for it. The 65 chevelle is almost ready to go home. And the green corvette is a og paint survivor car. Just cleaning up some stuff on it.

So this finally happened. I went and looked at this blazer 15-16 months ago. Old guy was asking about getting it redone. I asked if he was going to keep it or sell it when done. Sell it was his answer. I told him sell it how it is and save a lot of headache and money. I said I would be interested in it if the price was right. We came up with a price and he said he would let me know I would here from him every couple of months. Yes I am still interested just let me know when. That day finally happened. It is not as rough as it looks. 1972 K5 CST factory orange blazer. Some new parts were included. Even got the numbers matching short block which doesn’t really do anything for me. You wanna let that go? I’m looking for one…

I don't think there is a bigger pain in the ass car to build a conti vert. Between the electronics, the vacuum and the top system its a nightmare. I gave up after spending over 2 years souring parts and chasing.gremlins and will never attempt.another. it was a bucket list car for.me that will never happen

is that damage from the inside or outside? chain driven off of what? I guess Ive just assumed that they were crank driven like the modulars and LSs. Ive yet to actually lay eyes on one. Tx boys like their diesels.
Damage from a rock...a big rock, dented the crossmember. It was in an E350 cutaway. The oil pump itself is on a stupid casting that bolts up inside the apron...almost like a windage tray. It has a jack shaft that runs to the front of the motor with a sprocket, maybe a #20 chain? And that has it's own little tensioner to run around the crank.

Oh, and the plug in the side of the pan for the oil pressure control, when you unplug it, remove the plastic piece behind it. Turns out that runs into an o-ring on the pump. If you don't, it "may" snap while pulling the pan, so I hear:rolleyes:
Nailed it.
Has anyone made a solid state controller for those? My brother got one 15 years ago that had always been garaged, top down. Calls me one night because it was going to rain, and the top wouldn't go up. There must have been 20 relays and 2 miles of wire to sort out! It was a metallic blue with a white top and interior, sold it to some musician out of LA.

Not that I am aware of. There is a guy that comes out of Palm springs who is supposedly the guru of these things. I have had a few through here and have managed but they are a royal pain in the ass. This one was a light blue/silver and the guy does hollywood studio stuff.
