Here goes my weekend...
2-3 layers of 30 year old patio paint has to come off first.

Floor is stripped of the 35+ years coatings (patio paint) and set to dry overnight. That was a bitch to strip off with what I had (floor buffer with 20 grit diamond insert pads) normally would take me a couple of hours to prep but that shit was on there. Wish I had brought the carbide insert wheel home to speed things up a bit but it's done.
A little prep work in the morning and the base coat goes down with chips.

What do you use to fill the gaps? Ardex feather finish?

Following this for sure. I need to do my garage but as mentioned above by @Pinball getting everything out to do it is going to be a chore.

Biggest regret was not having it done before I moved in.

For cracks I've used two different applications and both of them have had good results.
1. Two part epoxy mixed with grey sanded grout.
2. 3M Bondo all purpose filler.

Day two.
I would normally fiil all the cracks and canyons prior to wet grinding the surface but since there were 3 layers of paint I had to take it in steps. Todays goal is to fill all the voids and try to dry grind them with my 20" / 20 grit diamond wheel. I hope it works as I don't want to wet the surface and wait another day for it to dry to apply the base/chips.

Stay tuned...

For what is worth. I just had a new epoxy floor installed, I'm literally in the drying process. We used Sunset Epoxy Floors owned by Jacob Fowler 928-249-4112 and couldn't be happier with the finished product, their workmanship and professionalism from start to finish They started on time and finished when they said they would, even the clean-up was perfect. Havasu is a difficult town to get competent workers that do what they promise, I'll let it go at that. I highly recommend these guys !

Yes I did the garage where we reside at (for now) about 2-3 years ago. I had a lot of shit as well but was fortunate to have a wide gate that leads into the backyard right next to the garage door. Dollied everything that was not on wheels back there. My rollaway at about 2klbs rolled right back there as well.
The garage I did this weekend is our future home once we get a bunch of stuff taken care of there. It's nice to not be in a hurry to move in so we're taking our time.

I kinda like the 1st coat solid color only. I'm assuming you don't need the chips at all but still need the second coat right? I'm in the same boat of moving crap would be the worst part

Yeah first coat only looks totally batching, like glass but you wouldn't want to step on it with wet feet or where any type of liquid would be spilled as you'd be on your ass in a split second. The chips hide any imperfections that may arise over time and gives it that little extra texture you need to stay on your feet.

What’s the price per square foot on that ballpark?

You should expect to pay 3.50 to 3.75 per sf ft but, be careful when picking your contractor, you get what you pay for.

Couple of questions.

I’ve seen garages where they have what looks to be a decal under a clear coat like a boat manufacturer logo. Guessing that would go on after a base coat and then clear coat over that? Guessing that be very slick and slippery?

I really like some of the lava flow look floors. I’m guessing there’s some type of anti-slip finish with those. Could that product be used and then apply an anti-slip coating over that?

Appreciate y’all’s thoughts.

Blew off about 20lb of chips that didn't stick and now start the scrapping process in preparation for the clear coat.

Yeah that 3 layers of paint were a bitch to get off. You gotta have a really good clean porous concrete base to start with or it will go to shit on ya.

Do you save the "Chips" so can be used on another floor?
I would normally just dispose of the leftovers as I hope this is my last floor to do. On the other two garages I did the curbs as well and initially elected not to do them here as 90% of it will not be visible once everything is in place. Now looking at it I will get another gallon of the epoxy and utilize the spare chips to cover tha area.

Scraping is done and here goes the final coat.

IMO... you need some additional practice to get those imperfections to a minimum...
I call you in a few months for more practice applications...

I will come on over to practice on your garage floor before I do mine. Let me know when we are on. 👍

Area was about 440sgft. I would have to look at cost when back in the office on Tue.
DM @CoronaChris for cost if interested. He's a great guy to deal and even offers complete garage makeovers. I just elect to continue to abuse myself with this stuff. 😁

One last word of advise if anyone wants to take this on yourself. The single most important step in this whole process is the preparation of the surface. Surface must be free of any oils/contaminants to get the longterm results you will expect. Do a half ass prep job and you'll get a half ass finished one. If any water beads up your not ready to lay down the base.
If the floor were not painted (3 fukin layers) I could have ground it to suit in 1.5 -2hrs. With what tools I had with me it took 7 hours. Thought my arms were going to fall off toward the end. That floor machine is low-med speed but can get away from you if you let your guard down for a second.

Does anyone know if you have a freshly poured garage floor, what prep is needed? (This is before any contaminants or stuff has been put into the garage)
