My boat is a 97 DCB 24 extreme double step bottom. Carbed 500hp. 1.5 gears 26P bravo 1 prop.

Speed wise I'm currently getting 74mph at 5100 just me and the wife. Add 2 people and it's 72. While that feels pretty fast when driving it I think I should be getting a little more speed considering it's not that big a boat. I was running next to a 29 Velocity with a 496HO this weekend and we were about neck and neck. Much bigger boat than mine.

I have been wondering if my prop has had some work and might be cut down a little. I measured the diameter of the prop yesterday and it's 15 not 15.25. I measured it pretty carefully so I'm wondering if that small diameter change would effect my top end? The Mercruiser slip calculator puts me at 12%.

I'm wondering if I should try an uncut 26P or see if I can swing a 28P.

Opinions?

Thanks

Probably start with the box stock 26. 28 is probably going to be too much.

Is your boat a stepped hull? I run the same with a 496HO also in a 26' but have stepped hull.

Thank You but I'm actually in Norcal. Mostly run the Delta.

Yes it's the double step.

I would think a 28 would work with 500 HP.

It would help to know the rpm's you're turning and what the optimum rpm range is for your engine. Assuming you are at the proper rpm's, I would bet a 28 Lab Bravo 1 would get you what you're looking for. Not a molested 28...... but one from Mercury racing that hasn't been touched.

Thank you! In the process. Started a 4 month post op chemo schedule yesterday. Need to see how I feel with that. The plan is to slowly start moving and organizing. First trip is planned for Sunday.
