Wow second time I have seen this happen. I live near the Carlsbad state campground. Going up Poinsettia from the campground, slight hill, truck next to me pulling a large fifth wheel, the entire hitch came off the bed of the truck. Either the hitch could not handle the weight load or the fifth wheel was overloaded. Kinda don't trust them anymore.

Intended to inject sarcasm and humor. A while back some mfg's were criticized for using non boxed frames on 1/2 tons while most of the domestic 3/4 and 1 tons used non boxed in frames.

The boat trailer is a balance trailer.

When you load the rear of the fifth wheel trailer, the front has less weight.

Putting the boat on the boat trailer, was enough to lift the fifth wheel cross bar. Fifth wheel trailer was no longer attached to the truck. The king pin or jaws DID NOT FAIL.

Cross bar wasn't pinned in.

100% operator error.

Simple physics. Action, reaction.

When you load the rear of the fifth wheel trailer, the front has less weight.

Putting the boat on the boat trailer, was enough to lift the fifth wheel cross bar. Fifth wheel trailer was no longer attached to the truck. The king pin or jaws DID NOT FAIL.

Cross bar wasn't pinned in.

The tail gate was closed.
That's the way I tow a fifth wheel trailer.
Then it went down hill.
You know, to the lake.
Gravity.

Once the cross bar exited the closed (now open taco'd, from truck forward/ fifth wheel trailer rearward) tail gate, gravity, again my friend, took over.

It didn't fall up.

He doesn’t care about the fifth wheel , was a abandon trailer that got towed in and he got for free at his family tow yard!! So u can imagine how great of shape it is in !!!!!!!
