I’ve really enjoyed reading the various home build threads on RDP so I thought I’d post one as well. We’re doing a custom build in Midlothian, about 30 minutes South of Dallas where we have a bunch of family. It will be a 3100 sq ft single level with a pool and break ground in about a month. For those of you that have built homes, this has been quite the learning process, at times stressful but a fun process at the same time. The build will take @7 months and we’re hoping to move in sometime during the month of September. Here’s a couple photos from the architect. The colors, flooring options, etc aren’t exact but give a fair representation. I’ll post more pics along the way. Ready for a new adventure in life!

Awesome. Cannot wait to see the progress.

Was this the builders architect or did you find one yourself then had the plans bid on?

Do you have the floor plans? I’d like to see the layout. Did you buy the lot separately or is this part of a custom home community where you pick your lot and floor plan? Thanks!

You could use whoever you wanted to use but they had two architects that they worked closely with. With picked Tracy’s Custom Homes out of Farmersville. He was great to work with!

This is a custom home community and you pick out your lot. There are no models or floor plans to choose from so you start with an architect and design what you want.

In todays construction market with Covid-19 and Supply Chain Shortages 7 months is pretty damn ambitious in my opinion. Double that timeframe if you don't wanna be upset when it's not completed on time. Happy Building :D

You may very well be right. They've built 6 homes recently and all have finished in 6-7 months but with things changing daily, we could certainly take longer. The good news is my BIL lives about 5 minutes away and we can stay there as long as it takes. I want to be there the last couple months of the build!

Congrats Music To My Ears and looks like it is going to be a beautiful home. You are going to love North Teaxs and look forward to having more River Rats here. Pretty soon we are going to have our own Clan out here. I agree HB2Havasu especially with the contractors in Texas with the added Covid. I have really struggled the last 2 years building out here. It does suck being in the construction industry for 30 years and knowing everyone in all the trades( In California ) and not knowing anyone out here. They definitely do things different out here and beat to there own drum. Good luck with your build and looking forward to your thread.

Thank you, looking forward to living there! I'll be very curious to see how the build timeline plays out and I'll update along the way. Definitely a challenging time to build!

Very nice! I like all the trees. What size is the lot? Are you not at Disneyland anymore?
Thanks! We were definitely looking for as many trees as possible. The lot is 3/4 of an acre. As much as I wouldn't mind having more land, I'm not interested in keeping it up.

I'm still at Disney and plan on being there until June. I figure 40 years is enough.😆

Understandable. I'm trying to ease my wife into bigger lots and more remote spots as we move through life and towards retirement. I figure it's the "frog in slowly warming water" analogy. :)

Hell of a run. Are you always there? Will there be some sort of send-off? I need to get back over there at least one last time before we head to TX.

Sounds like a good plan, slowly but surely!

I'm there Thursdays-Mondays and lately a ton of rehearsals in addition to my normal days. There should be some sort of shindig!;)

I'm happy for you! The area looks really nice. Should be an adventure.
Thank you!

Thanks! I remember running into you up in Devils Elbow a few years back and was envious that you had fairly recently retired. Looking forward to it!

We came out to close the construction loan, meet with a couple vendors, and officially break ground. They have the forms up now so it’s nice to see where the house is going to sit on the lot.

A little different than so cal huh?! How tall are your garage doors and how deep are the garages? I think that’s the only thing I’m bummed about on my build. Won’t be able fit a super duty in my garage. Live and learn.

You’re about 15 mins south of us.
We have a lot of friends in Midlothian, it’s a great community.
You’re gonna love it 👍👍👍

It’s also no longer a secret and they’re building like gangbusters LOL

Some of our friends have a several-acre plot, all of the homes in their neighborhood are custom and on large lots.

But two blocks away they’re putting in 300 homes that are stacked on top of each other LOL

I’m happy to help you out in any way, just reach out 👍
We’ve been in the area for three years now and can help you with recommendations etc…whatever you need

They are 8 foot doors with two bays at 24‘ deep and one bay 26’ deep. I should be able to put a small boat in there at some point, we’ll see. I’m sure there will be things that we would have done differently at the end of the build too.

That’s very cool of you, thank you! I think I know exactly where you’re talking about with the 300 homes. I’m hoping it doesn’t impact roads etc. too badly. 😂
I know I’ve seen it on here somewhere, but what town do you live in? Slowly but surely I’m getting a feel for where things are but it’s still a bit confusing with no mountain range to gauge directions from! 😆Sounds like we need to do an RDP hang at some point. 👍

That’ll be nice. You should be able to fit any truck in there at a minimum.

For sure!

We’re in Duncanville, just east of Arlington.

Sounds like a plan. We could definitely use some guidance on Texas boating so a get together would be very cool!

wait, what? I missed the memo. pop da champagne!

looks awesome, congrats!
Right?!?!?! I missed this thread as well for some reason. Best to you and the Mrs. as you navigate the build. Good looking house that you have being built. One items that I’d like to point out on the rendering is the the door, sidelights and transom grids. Be sure that they line them all up. It just a rendering but they need to know or it might bother you each and every day.

Happy to talk about it more if what I am saying is not clear.….

Thank you for your guidance here, much appreciated! As it turns out, we are not doing the sidelights on the front door area anymore. It will just be 2 mostly glass doors there now. I will definitely reach out if we have some more door/window questions along the way!

We’re about a month ahead of schedule at this point. Framing is moving quickly but now waiting for the garage LVL’s which should be delivered in about 2 weeks. So far, so good!
