Interesting bit of info I found. I had always figured it was owned by the Indians and Navajo nation. Well not really. They own the land and lease the land to Jerry Moyes. CEO of Swift trucking. Turns out the reason why the marina was shut down wasn’t because of COVID and the Indians but actually because Moyes owes the Navajo Nation close to 8 million dollars in back taxes. And got into a pissing match with the National park service. So they shut him down.

Anybody else know this or was I the only one who just assumed it was all Navajo owned and run?

They are open now. But the closure earlier this year was a result of the NPS and tax debacle.

Interesting, I never thought about who owned it. That marina popped up out of the blue one year. It's crazy how fast places get built up. We always go to Wahweap anyway. Pretty cool resort to stay at whether in the motorhome or in a room.

When we were at Lone Rock a couple of weeks ago, we were talking to a local business man about the Navajo Generating Station. I had mentioned that we had come in to Page after being in Durango and seeing the coal train tracks with broken power poles all along the track. Talked about the power plant. I thought that it was an environmental deal to stop using coal, but he said that was not the reason. The Navajo had kept raising the electricity rates and the utility companies just said NO, so there were no customers for the electricity.

We did enjoy a nice lunch at Antelope. They had only been open for a week and sounds like it was shut down about a week later. We always have enjoyed eating there, except I wish we could shoot the idiots who don't abide by the wakeless area.

Poor management is a factor nationwide with Tribes. They are so used to getting freebies that when it is time to actually run a business it is a disaster. There are very few Native Casinos that are a success with out White Management.

I worked for one for 15 years, and agree. When I started with them, was mostly tribal ran, with some non-tribal. When they decided to to go big, they were really open to the non-tribal upper management. They ended up going mostly non-tribal upper management and built an amazing new casino-hotel. Within a couple years of the ne facility opening, they figured why not get rid of upper management. Well, they did, including me. Then they went downhill from there. They have hit close to rock bottom after COVID i hear. Trying to make a comeback.

I have seen that play out, over and over. I would never get into a business deal of any kind with them, especially on their land.
