I haven't, but that is similar to an old way they used to cook in camp (that i saw in camping cookbook). You used an upside down steel trash can (new & burned off LOL) with charcoal piled up around it to cook. Put the meat on a rack inside. It was called trash can chicken, or turkey.

I agree, the one I have the orion is stainless steel the trash can deal no good
