I've owned 2 beetles. a 1968 Baja conversion w/ 1835 engine, and a 1974 Super Beatle w/ 1600.

I just came back from a cruise down Mulholland Highway. So much fun driving a bug.

I'm not looking. I've had a 62, 65, 66, 67, and a 69. I'd rather have a prerunner Ranger. I like VeeDubs, but I'm like AC. [emoji3]

Old, early pre-super beetle bugs are fun to drive.

Cant tell from the picture, I love me some VWs but flying in an airplane with a VW for the propulsion, aint one of them. :)

Brian
Well when you think about the beating of Volkswagen takes to make it run 10s, or do a thousand miles out across the Mexican desert in race mode, or the abuse from a sixteen-year-old trying to learn to drive a stick, floating across the sky at 2800 RPMs consistently is nothing.
But most people look at it the same way that you are.:)

i want to get a project bug to work on. I’ve always liked them. I want to put a healthy 2276 turbo in it on race gas to drive around in, disk breaks, and a rag top but not convertible.

What is the going rate for project bugs?

Anyone else have them?
I've been watching these things for a bit now. The only way you are getting something decent on the cheap is going 1960 and up (project but can find decent runners) or the friend hook up. If you start searching pre 1960 the you can add at least 2k-3k on just about everything. I've come across some good starting projects for under 2K. And a ton of runners (non full restor or show car) in the 2k to 4k market in the LA/Inland Empire market. But those are your basic 1600cc and under no frills drivers. I've set it in stone that my other two sitting projects will be back on the road before I jump into another project so the actual search is over... now it's just entertaining to see what's out there.

I had three '67's all Cal Bugs, one '69 converted to a baja, and a few other buggies. Loved the 67's. One with a mild 1650, 2nd with a 1835, last with a 2180, favorite was the 1835, purposely under built to keep the reliability factor...fun, low cost, easy to sup up cars that is for sure (well back in the day at least).

We live in Temecula and do the wine tours a few times a year. The wife found this new company that will take you on a wine or brew tour in style . Definitely recommend for a small group. They have 2 busses that they will follow each other for bigger groups. The driver (part owner) is beautiful too so that helps the experience.

I have a buddy named Rodney Cooper in Valencia that is a VW master. He's been on Overhauling and everything. I have trusted him with everything and he always done a better job than anyone else could do. He's an artist not just a mechanic. He's also been on teams for Baja and other road racing stuff. If you want a hookup, he's a good one. He doesn't charge like the big guys other...just loves his work.
