Ya I call it an A5 cause it is a bronze agressor econo cut (a4) That I welded up with some neat alum bronze welding rod that I tried out(crazy stuff). It just barely clears the fins on the bowl. With an a4 it turned 5500 and a s.s AA it was close to 6000.

Boat #1
Boat Model-Spectra 20
Model of Jet-Berkely 12JG
Engine Type and approx. HP-460 Ford/apprx 375hp
Impeller Cut-Factory AA
Max RPM-4700
MPH-53mph
and any modifications like ride plate, place diverter, etc.....
6 degree's down wedge, crappy bolt on Place ride plate, hydraulic Place diverter.

Boat #2
Boat Model-Spectra 20
Model of Jet-Berk 12JG housing, converted JC to JG bowl
Engine Type and approx. HP-498ci BBC/821hp@ 6200
Impeller Cut-Stainless MPD detailed Legend A/B
Max RPM-This motor and pump combo will spin to 6000
MPH-unknown in this boat
and any modifications like ride plate, place diverter, etc.....
Slightly set-back intake with MPD shoe and rideplate, DPS inducer in front of impeller, 17-4 shaft, Place FTN diverter with Aggressor pump/controls setup, extended center and outer lifting strakes. It will be fun to see what it runs when it's done.

Boat #1's RPM seems a little high for 375 hp and a AA impeller. That should be around 43-4400 max. My 454 Schiada has an AA impeller and I can pull 43-4400 tops which makes sense for my relatively stock 454. Is the tach right or is the hp number wrong? 4700 rpm indicates more like 450 hp with that impeller...according to the impeller selection guide. :thumbsup

Tach was accurate to the digital RPM on my timing light, so good enough for government work. ;) As for the 460, I didn't build it, but in going through the receipts there was nothing besides a cam and cleaned up heads that would indicate a large HP change over stock. If I wanted to get optimistic, I suppose I could say the boat made 400-425, but you have to remember that the printed impeller selection guides represent an average. So if you take in to account that fact, along with an un-dyno'd engine, I have little reason to doubt the AA or the tach. I've driven plenty of Spectras with jets, and I can tell you it definitely wasn't an A impeller based upon plane times and lower RPM performance. One possibility is that at WOT, and trying to trim for top speed (relative term ;) ) the pump was seeing some cavitation. The boat was used primarily on Havi and never really saw "smooth" water.

When you look at data across multiple boats, you can only gauge trends, not absolute values as there are multiple variables that will affect one or more of the reported data points.

hope that helps

OK...that is good data to know. It just seemed, even with appoximations, that either you had more HP than you thought or an A rather than AA cut impeller. Either way, sounds like you have a solid performer. :)

1st post......

1985 Bahner / 19' 11" / 454 / 425 hp/ 780 Holly / Berkeley 12-JG A

Est speed 65?... At 4600-4800 rpm

I'm only guessing on the speed-rpm's as it is off the gauges .... HP claim from
original owner. That being said... I bought it last summer and ran it until it got cold ( northeast Mississippi) and it ran pretty strong...

I've got it in pieces now.... Clean and refurbish mode. Looking forward to warm weather.
