Any inmates residents of Santa Clarita? We are still looking to move by end of Summer this year, and this is an area we are considering. We have narrowed it down to either Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, or Santa Clarita.

My grandparents and cousins have lived in Saugus for 25 years and the area seems to stay pristine clean, which I really like. I'm not crazy about how busy the town is in general, there is alot of street traffic. It does have alot for the kids to do, lots of great sports programs, parks, and the schools are supposed to good.

We're looking to move somewhere we can stay for 15-20 years and raise the kids, who just turned 6 and 8. My wife wants there to be alot of neighborhood kids, a strong sense of community, fun neighbors in our age group, etc etc. We're worried we may not have that in Thousand Oaks and Simi. There is alot more house inventory in Santa Clarita, newer homes with better floorplans, many turn-key that dont need a full gut / remodel.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Santa Clarita, the good and the bad.

Thanks

We have lived in a few areas of Santa Clarita. We lived in Castaic for a few years and now are in Valencia near the mall. Castaic was nice since was really quiet there but prefer being more in the city.

We also like that the valley is patrolled by LASD and they seem to do a fairly decent job of keeping crime to a minimum.

Our neighbors moved form Valencia to our hood 20 years ago. He's part owner of CW Driver and made the commute to Pasedena 5 days a week for the past 20 years!

I lived out there for 15 years. Mostly loved it. People from Valencia side look down their nose at the canyon country people.
Getting in and out of the valley sucks. Everything is 'er out there, hotter colder , windyer.
I had to move back to the valley near you.

Traffic south on I5 is brutal. Traffic north on the 405 or 5 is brutal, especially on Friday's

Did I say BRUTAL?

We almost moved out there but chose eastern simi valley instead. The 118 is a breeze.

Boom! Ban hammer down!

I don't want to distract from the thread, and don't feel the need to talk shit... but F that guy.

He kinda went away on his own for awhile so I left well enough alone, but seeing that name pop up all over the place today... not so much.

Is it cool to light of the 12 Guage every once in a while when the trash pandas get out of hand? 🤔

Exactly the same for us in 2013. We were in the valley looked at both SCV and Simi/Moorpark. While you could find nice houses with good size lots in Castaic in Santa Clarita the drive out there on the 5 was brutal...and that was just going to look at houses!

I already commute to Torrance so didn’t want the additional traffic the 5 has.

Another big factor for us was the additional heat in the SCV compared to the valley. Coming from the valley it was nice to get into Simi where it cools down quite a bit in the afternoon and is usually a few degrees cooler during the day. Makes a big difference overall.

To add to what everyone else has mentioned.

Almost every neighborhood has Mello Roos. Beware. Just sold a beautiful house off Sand Canyon. A rare newer neighborhood with no MR.

Lived here my whole life. It was a lot better twenty years ago. More small business people and voted red. It’s still a nice place to live but the dynamics have changed. Traffic in town is horrendous compared to what it used to be.

The only problem I see is the areas your looking at are all in California, lol. Seriously I wouldn't want to raise my kids here in this state now. It was hard enough to do 20 years ago, I couldn't imagine doing it in todays Socialist Republik of California. Good Luck to ya!

Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks. Will be on average 10+ degrees cooler in the summer. Schools are better, and traffic is a breeze compared. Feels like a community not a city. I worked in Valencia for 15 years and looked at moving out there, but HOA and CFD costs are insane.

if it your planning on living here for awhile i would move to Simi or thousand oaks since they are Ventura county.
lower taxes and you can get a concealed carry permit.

Canyon Country guy here. Off of Soledad / Sand Canyon. I commute everyday to Downtown LA and on average takes 1 hour 20 minutes each way. Tons of Antelope Valley traffic using the 14 freeway. Valencia has all the cool shit and newer stuff but the East side slowing building new developments and hopefully soon have some upper scale restaurants, bars, etc. Other than the traffic we love living out in SCV.

Thousand Oaks or Simi vote here too! I live in east Simi and I commute to Universal everyday and its about 20-35 minutes shorter than my Valencia co-workers with the same exact miles. Also Ventura county

A lot of valid points to consider^^^^

My daughter and SIL recently moved to the Five Knolls area, Santa Clarita.. Nice, clean, new... but no yards or street parking...

They would have landed in Moorpark or T.O but job locations limited their options

Traffic, traffic and more traffic. Future growth is incredible and inevitable which equates to even more traffic..
Not to mention it's L.A. County

But... you are closer to the lake

oh, Did I mention traffic?

Conejo Valley has much less traffic, moderate climate, better schools, closer to the beach and frankly I'm very happy with the law enforcement here (Ventura Sheriff)
Property values are more $$ in conejo valley but sacrifices have to be made

We raised our kids in Saugus, moved to OC after they left high school. It was a good place to raise kids then, great schools, low crime. My kids keep in touch with their high school buddies still and they are told or rampant heroin use throughout the SCV. I guess you could say that is anywhere these days, but my kids say they have never heard of the issue being so prevelent anywhere else.

The one thing that use to really got on my nerves is the the traffic. Not so much the freeways getting there, that is no walk in the park, but the service streets are brutal. The town exploded in sections with no real master plan so its a cluster fuck, to get from one side of the valley to the other like Canyon Country to Stephenson Ranch during peak hours can take the better part of an hour.

I live in Newbury Park with my wife and two small kids and couldn't be happier. I grew up in Thousand Oaks, but lived in North OC with the wife for about 10 years prior to moving back to Ventura County. As mentioned above, the weather is great, traffic is minimal and the schools are excellent. I wish we had some better restaurants, and it's a little far from the river. Home prices are high, but a lot of the older communities have no HOA's.

Thousand Oaks puts you in a good spot for commuting. The 118 can be a great asset when the 101 sucks. Also easy to shoot through Kanan to get to Malibu. Or take decker canyon.

Also ventura county so better sales tax etc for big purchases.

I couldn’t do that 405/5 commute from Santa Clarita but everyone we know who lives there loves the area.

Might want to look at Camarillo. Cooler, great schools, 15 minutes to TO 20
Minutes to the beach, can cut across to the 118 or across to Malibu. Plus there’s various style homes from 25 million dollar mansions in Spanish hills to 3 acre and up parcel lots off of Santa Rosa valley, to track homes and everything else. Lots of options.

My kids are 5 and 1. Daughter just started public school. Do you work at Amgen? We live in Rancho Conejo, which is very close to your office.

I love it in SC but its is growing and growing without the freeway system to support it. Tons of family oriented activities, crime is around but nothing like the valley, schools are great, roads are actually paved, good city services and generally people are nice. BUT the growth does concern me, especially with the HUGE new development starting off the 126hwy. Depending on when/ where u commute it is not fun trying to get in and out of here. Day before Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. Dont leave SCV casue you wont be getting back under 5 hour drive up the 5. Tons of places to eat but its all generic crap food. Dont expect good mexican or italian. Valley food is all over SCV. I would give Simi some serious consideration due to it being Ventura county. Simi is established and is what it is. Not really changing all that much.

Been out here for 30 plus years. Started by college of the canyons. Moved down to by the hospital and 20 years ago moved out Castaic just up from the west ramp. My wife and I thought the schools were really good ( they’ve been out now a minimum 6 yrs ) but I still read about distinction awards in local schools.
I drive to Burbank ( but leave at 5:15 ish) and it takes just over 30 minutes. I’m heading home right about 330. And on average it’s 45 minutes.
I know a lot have hoa’s but I think most that had a mello roos have hit what I thought was a standard 20yr tax.
I feel I’m close to city traffic and that shit but just far enough out. I live. in truck stop. Lol.

Real bro’s of Simi Valley!

Seriously though, epic little series funny as hell. Dude that created was asked why Simi Valley? He said, “I don’t know, just wanted some random place that sounded funky. It was between Simi Valley and Santa Clarita and Simi Valley won.” Lol
