Ive been drawn in the unit for a rifle deer tag and I’ve just now realized I’ll be in Havasu’s back yard!

The thought of tagging out early and spending some time on the water sounds great but it’s gonna take some serious work to make that happen.

I’m gonna keep this thread going as I start spending more and more time getting familiar with the unit. If you have some basic insight I’m all ears but I’m not looking for any handouts. We’ll find the honey holes if they’re out there!

Probably mule deer tag, I don't think there are many elk in the western part of AZ.

Good luck on your hunt, should be some monsters in there.

@evantwheeler I edited the post. This is a rifle deer tag.

I def see some elk hunting in my future but I’m mighty content right now glassing and hauling for friends and acquaintances during their hunts. I get some meat, get to soak up all that knowledge and eventually cash in some i-o-u’s when my tag comes along.

They sleep in our driveway nightly

Decided to update the thread while I wait for sunset up in Unit 17 aka Prescott.

I’m archery hunting in this area after getting traffic alerts about a major back up on I17 southbound. Instead of waiting in miles of traffic I made a quick detour near Chino. I was on my way home from a quick two-day hunt in Unit 10 near Ash Fork so wasn’t much effort to head this way.

This is the setup I ran with since I had never been up in the Ash Fork/Willams area (other than to play a round at Elephant Rock). It’s quick and easy to load and I can get pretty deep to camp compared to taking the Sierra 2500. Although I sleep in the truck bed vs. the nice plush Flippac! In hindsight I’ll take the diesel next time because the roads are nice and wide.

This weekend action started with glassing up a few doe midday but now bucks in tow. This was after being skunked in the morning.

I like to ride the quad around to preview and area then hike around until I find a good glassing spot.

I decided to spend the afternoon on my little knob while I waited for sunset. I a monsoon case through and even dropped a little hail!
