Almost stepped on this fucker when I pushed the rock with my bare (sandal) foot. Not sure what it is, no rattler but the head shape looks correct. Just to be safe i smashed it, burned it and now i will light my house on fire and move to Alaska

you already did what i was going to suggest. my only suggestion would be to completely remove the head then kill it with fire.

I should have taken a better pic of the head. Squared jaw for sure but if i killed a gopher i feel bad and did myself a disservice

If you were that close to it and it didn’t rattle, it wasn’t a rattlesnake.

Did the tail come to a blunt end or did it narrow down real thin? Blunt end it was probably a small rattler.

Id say no but then again I didn't know Snap-on made go aheads. 😁

On second glance the head looks pretty viper like.
BTW leave the head on.

You know your Old when you refer to slides as “Go Aheads” think the last time I heard that was about 45 years ago 😂

LOL Actully picked it up from the guy that showed us around on our first trip to Parker in 1984, classic river rat, he would have been in his 90’s now.

You’re really old and out of touch if you refer to them as Jap Flaps!
Pops calls em Jap Slaps. I remember getting in trouble at school for saying that along with a game we used to call Smear the Queer. Never even thought about the name, and remember being so confused when I got pulled aside for detention.

It is 100% a Rattle Snake. We used to catch them at Chantry Flats in junior high school. They get a new rattle every time they shed. They don't always have a rattle, sometimes they come off. Next shed they will start a new one.

Nightsnake most likely and they are mildly venomous but no harm to humans.Their head is a lil more triangular vs a gopher snake.
