Yep and in the 70's we even ran 16 ft outboards and flat bottoms

Both my boats have theoretic provenance in the race

The 1976 Hallett I dont have proof but was told it was built for the race and then went on to some drag work, not sure but sounded plausible after talking to Tom Papp who did the original rerig in 1989 :yikes
Here are a few pics after BJ finished with a complete re rig last year. Currently the nicest 1976/2014 19' Hallett around in my biased opinion. I have had it for more than 25 years and its worthless on the market,
but to me it has many reasons to keep it.

The 1991 Howard I actually found the provenance after I bought it, it ran in the 90's by someone out of Huntington, I believe the name was Craig.
I found at least 2 runs I believe in the senior class but the trick was it ran in the 22 and under class. Which was obviously why someone took a 24 Schiada mold and whacked of the back 2 feet to make a 22 Howard Offshore.

My late grandpa is actually coming across the line around the 5 minute mark towing mixed doubles. Really cool!

This is early 1960's My Dad and Jim Mcalwain in a 13'6" ArrowCraft boat with a pair of Merc 58's. My family built these boat out of Anaheim Calif from the late 40's to the early 60's. They ran the round Catlina and also the round Anacapa races for a couple years with this set up. Gps we don't need no stinking Gps and radio "Forget about it" we got a hand held compass and a fair idea where the islands are or at least where they should be. Notice the leather straps on Helmets and the World War II surpass life jackets.

Yeah small boats all the way to Catalina, contrary to popular belief you don't need a 30' tunnel to run Parker either.....

I've taken an 18' to go diving and fishing off Anacapa several times...just don't want to be out there after dark!

I skied a practice run to Catalina and back behind that Howard back when Craig owned it. Its a great boat! My Dad owns a 22 Hauking, which is supposedly the hull Howard used to make this model.

I noticed my Spectra 20 "MOONSHINE" #18 the fourth boat, I think it was the Senior Men's overall winner.
It was the overall winner in the 1981 Catalina Race. The Skier was John Belvail and the Driver was Pat Chadwick, who was the 1st woman driver to win the Catalina ski race.
