The 4" butterfly flaps in the tips of my '92 Hallett 210 are falling apart. They're the welded in style. New flaps are on the way from Hallett. I've never removed tips from a transom before. Anybody done this job and have some valuable suggestions?

take the bolts out. if you have some fishing line take it and run it between the tips and transom to break up the silicone so they're easy to remove. clean off all the old silicone. if you have original gel it is safe to use acetone, if you have paint or painted pinstripes, etc dont use acetone just scrub more with a mild cleaner. pray the old holes line up with the new ones. otherwise you'll need to plug the old holes up and drill new ones. apply a generous bead of silicone around the tips and any bolt holes. dont go to town on the bolts and over torque them, squeezing out all of the silicone.

I did it on my old 95 eliminator
and its a bitch to get the tips out use fishing line on old silicone
gotta have a gorilla grip in order to twist them off exhaust hose
once you do its easy job of grinding rivets out and reinstall new ones
use a bead of aquarium silicone on the inside edge of tips when reinstall
