Nice truck, just finish the details to your specs and drive it. As you know once you start tinkering it's like a run away train. Drive it to Dino's this year and you could make some Bank .

I'm just going to clean it up and cruise it and probably throw a stereo in it with the left over stuff I have.

Doesn't make sense to turn it into a race truck. In the future I think a 5.3/4l60e would be a nice upgrade. Do it so it looks factory and clean while essentially picking up 150hp.

I tend to stay away from rabbit hole$$:D

I'm pretty sure I have a set of SSBC 2 piston calipers for that thing if you decide to make the brakes not suck...

The brakes are without a doubt spongy and semi crappy on these trucks...lol

What do you have :)

Glad to see you breathing some life back into your truck. The 15's weren't all bad, but they definitely drive nicer with 17's.

Here my old truck, buddy now owns it. We got it into the high 12's with an iron headed 406. Rear end is a 9" from a Lincoln Versailles, factory disc brakes and all.

It's getting a 13:1 injected 383 now...

Keep giving us updates, looking forward to more!

It has the vortec motor right? Slap a blower on it and run that motor. They run pretty damn good, would be period correct

Shit i think the 5.3 or even a 6.0 in this truck done simple clean and to look just clean would be ideal. Mated to a 6 speed auto have a bad ass 25mpg cruiser.

I thought that I responded to this earlier but obviously I hadn’t. The 88-98 trucks were such a huge part of my early adult years. I to CA for several years and that was the time when Dealers had custom truck on their lots. I recall the bad ass Budnik trucks as well as amazing tow pigs going out to the river. I ended up getting my own in 98 and ran with the modifications from day one. Pulling all the moldings was the start going all the way to bagged on 20s which was the largest size at the time. I also spent time fabricating bumpers which made it easier to have a dropped trucks in the islands.

One day I hope to have another OBS in our garage.

Then it would lose that "period custom" thing it has going on. It's the 90's equivalent of finned M/T valve covers, gold milidon pan, Accel 8.8 yellow plug wires and a blaster coil :D

Fellas don't tempt me...haha

Its got a single chamber flowmaster on it and I hate it...lol

Magnaflow makes a catted y pipe and exhaust that made like 20 to the wheels on these trucks. It might get to LS territory if I can get the flomaster off...haha

Parts have arrived and I got the truck back from Simons Autobody yesterday as promised. Paint looks great and I couldn't be happier as Geza noticed the front trim panel between the grill and bumper was cracked and made me a sweet deal to handle that as well.

Started assembling the new grill and lights. You can see the old grill has some issues and the lights were toast.

Decided to order a new billet grill (Like $48 shipped) as well to make it all new. This billet grill over lays the factory bumper and clamps down with screws and tabs. Pretty smart deal compared to the old days of cutting out the factory shell and inserting with screws/nuts on the side.

The only think I think I'm going to fix is I'm not sure I like the silver paint on the new lower lights. I'm going to mask them off and paint them black like the originals so it blends better.

Getting there.

Damn man, I just saw this thread. You guys are taking it back! Bad ass. I loved Traders in the 90's. And Master Image Customs...Those two duallys they did were like my dream trucks. LOL

Absolutely love 90's Chevys. Had a 93 Standard cab dropped on 17's, 93 Crewcab dually dropped 6/8 on Concept Neepers, 97 Suburban 15" lift on 42's and the 99 2door Tahoe recently. The lines of the 90's chevy trucks are so clean.

Nice ride Brandin. Congrats.

Thanks for that....I would have pissed if I swapped it all out and broke it the first time I closed the hood.

Everything fit surprisingly well. I chose the amazon parts that had good reviews and ratings. One of the lower tabs on the grill did show up broken but I was able to fix it with superglue and some plastic bits for strength.

Nice!

Good call to paint the housing of the lower flashers black.

Is that burgundy a stock color?

So if 88-98’s are OBS, are 99-06’s NBS?
What about 07-current? I’ve had a truck from each of these generations and have never heard them referred to as OBS or NBS.

That debate has gone on for years on trucking forums. Not sure if it was every solved. LOL

There is always a few that get out early and stay late but my understanding is:
The OBS ran 88' thru 98' in half ton's, in 99' they introduced a body change with the LS engine.
The Suburban's in the OBS style didn't show up until 92' and they ran thru 99 which was the last year for the 7.4 as the 8.1 showed up in 2000.
I have a 2000 C2500 crew cab OBS with a 5.7 Vortec, my son has a 99' new body style with the LS.
2500 and 3500 new body style didn't show up until 2001, I believe there were some limited supply out earlier but Chevy had an inventory of OBS 2500/3500 to move.

07-13 are NNBS “new new body style”
I know....but it’s true!

..still diggin this thread.
Cruising the SFV always back in the day, there was a time when Baher Chevrolet (where I bought my first) had a line of full size trucks all done by Sport Trucks by Dean..they were standard issue..2/4 drops, Boyd's wheels and matching steering wheels, roll pans (bolted not shaved), billet grilles, maybe a couple other items and once in a while a custom pastel color lol. But it was a cool thing to see back then.

The one truck I wish I never got rid of and still had. Shitty picture but the only one I have on my phone.. '97 2500 extra cab short bed. Vortec 454, JBA stainless steel headers, 3" full stainless dual exhaust, hypertech programmer, Detroit locker in the rear, air locker in the front, 4:56 gears, 6" suspension 3" body, 37x12.50 swampers, ect... yes it had a cowl steel hood.. pic was taken in '02 (back when we camped almost every weekend in the dunes).. fuk to be in my early 20s again.. and yes the bed candy is still mine..lol
