I put this in new members first, time to move it here. This 74 Sanger was in a barn 1/2 mile from my house for 21 yrs. New motor is ready but I'm going through every part of the boat first.
Thanks!! I have a marine cam question, with the wet headers, is the overlap in a drag car cam going to cause water to be injested? Might post that in a different place... hmmmm. My new 496 is for a car i am building, just thinking about a cam swap.Welcome aboard! Cool piece you have there.
Keep the updates coming!

Thanks, ill pull the specs and compare. What are the cam specs?
Duration is the important one.
Having the header water plumbed to the drivers seat to adjust as needed.
My jet böté (454, .030" over) baby cam was 254°/264° @ 0.050"
.575"/.578". With water injected Bassetts (from the drivers seat). No problems with reversion.
Just my $0.02

Generally you want to keep duration to mid-230’s to mid-240’s@ 0.050”, with a 112-114 lobe separation to prevent them from drinking water.
Perfect info thnks! Im having to pull the front off in hopes of finding a cam number, hoping its not on the back. I bought the motor refreshed from a builder.Generally you want to keep duration to mid-230’s to mid-240’s@ 0.050”, with a 112-114 lobe separation to prevent them from drinking water.
Define water control please. Mine has the hoses coming off the thermostat housing using 1/2 inch lines, seems a bit much. Thanks, JoeThis is true for logs and snails, and Mercruiser type center riser exhaust. (No water control)
With the water control into the headers, the reversion isn't a problem. And it takes very little water to achieve cool(ish) headers.

Cool. Sounds like a no brainer thnksPolished Billet Exhaust Header Water Control Valve - CP Performance

This mounted and plumbed at the drivers seat.
A simple ball valve will also work.

You know, i thought about that. There are marks on the drivers side of the plate and a corresponding transom plug indicating there was a second pickup mounted. That might also make for a cleaner install, two less lines from the tstat housing. Thanks!!Just force feed the headers off the plate. Not moving, no water. Just don’t lift completely at speed, then you’ll have a complete other set of problems anyway!
I added the second pickup just for the headers and it would have worked perfect if i didn't have bolt on collectors on my headers, leaked around where they bolted up.You know, i thought about that. A better shot as a whole, it's a great idea for a lake boat. Thanks! Beautiful boat, i cant wait to get this one restored we are polishing everything, replacing hardware, and checking it all.
