Good evening All
Headed there next week for a full 7 days boatless

Suggestions on must do and anything to avoid. I know fires are somewhat close but not sure if the area is affected. Never been there and coming from Southern California

Family of 7 including a couple of 75 year olds.

Thanks for all the feedback!

We stayed and boated there once. As I recall you have to buy a permit. But you can boat up to the office that sells em. I have no idea if this is still a thing though.

The water is a bit acidic. My propeller had a bit of a white tinge to it from the harder water of the lower Colorado. A few days in Bass Lake water cleaned it right up, it came out shiny... like new.

There's a narrows area where people hang out. It had a rope swing back then.

Ducey’s on the Lake Lodge and restaurant was good. Yosemite isn’t far, if it’s open. The lake is not large. There are rental boats available.

Lots of bear activity lately, lots. Chukchansi casino is 10 minutes down the hill. Likely will be a craft fair in the village and maybe a farmers market. I think Friday evenings is the summer concert series at the water edge at duceys but haven’t been to one in a while. Yosemite, sugar pine railroad, Jones store up beasore road. Mexican restaurant, pizza place and millers or forks have the better food.

Are you renting a cabin? Chalet?

If you rent a boat the dam area has been a nicer hangout than willow cove. And killer bluegill fishing there. Willow party’s pretty good when school is out, but will calm down soon.

We love Bass Lake! We got married on a boat there.

I would recommend renting a pontoon boat at least one day and cruising the lake.

Depending on the water level there’s a beach near the falls that has a parking lot and is easy to walk to. The falls are fun if you have kids with you.

Yosemite is fairly close and you could easily spend a day or two exploring there. There’s also the Sugar Pine Railroad that does train rides that is on the way to Yosemite.

I would recommend driving around the lake and eating at Miller’s Landing. It’s just a burger joint, but it’s decent and the views are great. Sometimes they do movies on the water at night where you can watch from tubes or paddle boards.

There’s also The Forks to eat at. Another burger/sandwich place but it’s good.

There’s also a good hiking trail by the falls that has some beautiful scenery.

Have a great trip! We’re planning a trip there for next June.

All above are good Ideas.
The lake is really small so 7 days is a long time, unless you just want to relax. Spend a day in Yosemite, Suger pine RR is 15 mins away. If you need more Mariposa(town since 1850) is 35 mins. See the History museum, courthouse, Old jail, Catholic Church, CA mineral museum. Good food Savory’s/ Charles st/, check out the Hideout bar. Steves sportsman’s cafe.

Don’t come home without getting a double cheeseburger at THE FORKS. If you don’t have little kids ask a local how to get to Angels falls . It’s a large creek running down a huge granite slope with beautiful granite bowls 10 to 15 feet deep and the same diameter. The water is Jin clear. It is dangerous as fuck thought, that wet sloping granite is slippery as fuck. Someone dies there every year. I held a young man’s head together until a helo showed up & hauled ass to Fresno with him. Poor guy didn’t make it. As long as there’s water it is stunningly beautiful. I have a classic blown flat bottom story for anyone extra familiar with bass lake

A Bloody Mary at The Pines is damn good and there’s great ice cream across the lake but I don’t know the name of the place.

What are you gonna do with a pontoon boat? Retake Omaha Beach?
