......and drives another stake in heart of America innovation.

Regardless of ones feeling on the vaccine and vaccination - the president basically believes he has a right to give away American medical innovation, private investments, and hard work for free.

I wonder whose business he will destroy next?

Well, the US taxpayers paid Billions to the pharmaceutical companies to research, test, and produce these vaccines, so why not give it away to the rest of the world? That’s what we do... give our shit away to other countries.

I don't feel sorry for the pharma cartel, but your point is correct IMO.

My guess is it doesn't happen, a lot of campaign money at risk in them there opium facilities.

This is his response to the radical left crying about vaccine equity with other countries.

the president has no authority to relieve patent protection. WTO? hmmm. gotta wonder who is going to suffer if some 3rd party manufactures a vaccine that was freed from patent protection but ends up being less effective, or unwholesome, harming people.

Agree
I know that when the Gov/Taxpayers pay for development of weapons systems, the Gov/Taxpayers owns the plans, not Boeing, Northrop, not Lockheed.
Why should Pharma be different?

Boeing Lockheed Northrop etc get to resell these products in whole or part or issue manufacturing licenses to foreign countries globally (where allowed) by contract.

Its one thing to be paid to develop something knowing you will be able to charge for either the product or issue manufacturing licenses - its something altogether different to spend the time in development then have the go forward profitability removed from the effort because someone decides your work should become charity.

There is a high degree of probability that the companies that developed these would have simply worked on something different had they been told up front their patents would be unenforceable.

Socialism at its worse. Pharmaceutical Companies have spent billions over the years developing these types of vaccines and Biden’s just going to give away their licensing fees. I understand the intent, but the results would be devastating in the future!!! No company will ever do R&D again if they know Jao will just give all their work away for free.

Michael Crichton wrote in Jurassic Park - better to spend money on leisure as the wealthy will pay whatever you ask willingly to see a novelty like dinosaurs vs a medical breakthrough you will be forced to give away or highly discount for humanities sake.

Carl Sagan wrote a line into his novel "Contact", for the genius Hadden..."the first rule of government spending, why build one when you can have two at twice the price"

military spending contrasted to vaccines is interesting. they are opposite goals...one for ending lives, the other for preserving life.

I hold lots of pharma stock, so this is not in my self interest, but the soft power gained by the companies and by USA by agreeing to the WTO recommendation is immeasurable.

do we wear the white hat on this one? we will see.
