So it turns out that the driver of the Swift truck that flew off the 118 connector and landed on the 5 freeway was the Father of a young man my Daughter dated her Senior year in High School last year. His name is Gus and he really is a great guy. He has been with Swift for more than 20 years as a trainer and won't leave them because of the great benefits. His wife has serious medical issues and he has always been afraid to make a change. I have ribbed him several times about working for Swift with his skill sets but he is a strong family man and considers it a sacrifice worth making. They are still investigating but the rain and wind was heavy that morning (Montecito mudslides) and he was empty. The family has set up a GoFundMe because his recovery will take quite some time.

It sucks when you realize that you know people involved with stuff like this. I was one who laughed when I saw it was a Swift driver until I realized it was Gus. I would put his skills up against anyone's.
