Take a look at new Bimini ! Had boat down at dcb for some small gelcoat repairs and I asked them who could do a Bimini they referred me to the company they used to use in California ensuring me that they had the right dimensions so I called KMG and he said Yep he’s made several of them. He could get one right out so he made me this one I drove to California picked it up brought it back and had DCB install it.its just to bad it doesn’t cover the driver and passenger lol What do you guys think?

Well shit--last time I judge a bimini off a 2" thumbnail pic
Remember to put a twist in the straps to avoid them flapping or "snapping" in the wind.
Also--always check the interior to avoid transporting the invasive migrant worker

Looks short. Had to mount there so it would fold behind the seats. Looks a little tall to me also. But you’re limited to the dimensions of the boats seating layouts

Lol yes you’re all correct I’m not happy with it at all. Trying to work it out. With KMG and DCB but not going as smooth as I’d like. Looks like dog shit for 3K.

Yes, you’re 100% correct it Hass to go behind the seat but where it mounts inside there’s a little issue but nothing that I couldn’t figure out

I wouldn’t think DCB nor KMG would want that thing out there! Looking at the pictures, way too small.

14 posts. This has to be a TROLL. No way they put that there. Had to rethink my above post.

Not sure if it will make a difference but have you tried turning it around? Try it with the lower main arms going forward instead of backwards.

Even the best make mistakes.. that would be going back if it was me. I’d be very specific that I want it flat on the top and I want it to cover the driver passenger and as much of the rear as possible.

RD
Never did get the flat bimini’s. Those evolved because they are WAY easier to make. I feel they lack design. To each his own I guess,
Edit, 3K ? Holy Fuck!
Edit 2, You could take the canvas off and open it more. That would lower it also. Would need probably a longer center bow or made a 4 bow. Put tape on the frame to get the profile.
Edit 3, 3K????? Are those fittings riveted?

It’s rare you see dcb’s with bimini‘s up, but most I have seen are small like that.

That one looks legit, but I’d bet money that’s not a dcb supplied Bimini.

Vince, I spoke to you on the phone about that one, that’s a 4-bar and custom bent compound angles to fit the interior, clear the windshield and allow rear hatch access when closed. When I told you the price you were not interested. This one is one we recently designed for that exact purpose and is fully custom, there’s only two in existence and they were both built this year.

This is generally not the best option for solving problems…

The Bimini you purchased is what has previously been installed on M28R’s due to the windshield and interior panel layout. You certainly have the option to go the full custom route but it comes with a custom price.

I might add that you purchased the Bimini yourself and brought to us to install.

The custom route is still on the table…

Actually mine was custom from a company that was referred by DCD , the conversation that you and I had was after the fact, when I asked what I should do, your comment to me was that you had this one designed locally and you were not willing to give up that contact. So your suggestion was to pay 5k more after I’ve spent 3k already . can you elaborate on the best option to solve this ? And in my post it says DCB only installed it, I’m just curious what people think of my 3k Bimini

I haven’t read the whole thread, but that Bimini doesn’t fit the boat, it’s useless. I’m sure Kevin will take care of you.

Pay once, cry once. Why are you lowballing a bimini cost for a DCB? Doing anything right costs more money.

If you’re happy with the price you paid then you should be happy with the result. You know what you didn’t get because you didn’t want to.

Just go enjoy the boat. You’re not going to get something better without spending more money.

Not sure what was discussed prior to fabrication and install. Was there a ticket written explaining the dimensions etc?

I don’t like it but idk if that’s the “standard” dimension for that boat. I will say the canvas looks loose too me. But maybe the straps haven’t been tightened.

Pretty much every Bimini top on a west coast custom boat is custom bent, hand stitched etc.

Here’s another M28 that had a Bimini completed by a shop that was not DCB or KMG.

Basically, the conversation was that KMG had done several M28 and when I called KMG he said yes I’ve several M 28 so I told him the color scheme drove to California picked it up and brought it back to Dcb and they installed it. I want to be clear that I’m not upset about the quality of the work or the install my issue is it doesn’t cover, the driver and passenger it’s half a Bimini

I think had you brought the boat down to KMG (which I know is a haul from AZ) that boat wouldn’t have left with you unhappy. I can only imagine how much easier it’d be to build that thing with the boat sitting at the shop, versus bulld it and hope it’s right for YOUR boat, which while yes it is an M28 where they have made a ton of them, yours is still custom some how vs every other M28. I can only imagine templates work to a degree, but much easier on a chaparral where every one is the same, compared to a DCB where not one are identical.

There wasnt an options of a better Bimini if I would’ve been told that the Bimini was only going to cover half the boat I wouldn’t have got it. I’m pretty sure is supposed to cover the passengers and drivers. This was custom made

Yes, after talking to Kevin that would’ve been a good option to take the boat down there, but he was pretty confident that what he had was correct

Exactly how much do you think a Bimini should cost?

Is taking the boat down to him now an option?

Man I had an aluminum 3 bow made for our 21 foot eliminator for $350 at anyhting canvas in phelan. This was quite a few years ago though.
Just had my 4 bow re canvased for the Fundeck in two colors for $250 from Fox here in Hesperia.
3k seems insanely expensive for a 3 bow bimini but maybe I am out of touch.
