So I went and spent the weekend in California last weekend just to get away from the 120’s (Heat)..

I wasn’t aware the sprinklers were hammering the side of my truck all weekend..

I haven’t washed it yet but my detailers friends are saying I’m screwed and it likely etched the paint.. even if they polish it, it might come back?

that something I should actually be concerned about?

Get the clay bar out and hope you don't have to get more aggressive. Water spot etching sucks....

I use C4 NanoSkin Sponge and NanoSkin Glide with good results.

50/50 vinegar and water, let soak and hit it with your de-ionized water system. inspect and report. LOL. Damn I miss seeing mountains. Even if they are on fire.

My water up in Carson City is geothermal that comes out of the well around 115 degrees. Stuff is hard as shit and leaves white spots on anything it touches. Outside water does not go through the water softener and sometimes if i screw up and dont get the truck out of the way the sprinklers will hit my black truck. I can normally run it through the car wash within a day or two and the spots will come off. I dont think you are screwed but I would not wait before you wash it. My truck is a dually and there is one pull in carwash here that i can take it through.

I haven't had good results with chemicals on etched in water spots. I choose to do clay first because it's the easiest on the paint. If that doesn't work I'd move on to more extreme measures. If they are really bad, it's time for a curing lamp and compounding. "Not something I would do as an enthusiast, but others sack up and do it."

If that's the truck you just got, now may be a good time to take it to a pro and get it corrected and ceramic coated.

This happens to me all the time. I live in Pasadena and drive a black SUV. It always comes off. Get it washed a soon as you can, then use hot sauce. been doing this for years. They key is not to leave the spots on too long.

The wife's black truck got hit big time a few weeks ago and I tried this stuff with very good results. About $28 at Walmart.

Disclaimer: I'm not a professional detailer but I've detailed cars and trucks some 😁 Meguiar's products are quite good and this one would be worth a try. As it says it's a polish so it should do the trick.

I'd wash the dually first maybe even with some Dawn detergent to get as much off as possible. Then try this or clay bar if you'd rather do that. Then wax on to replace what's gone.

Or go Baller and have it done and color corrected and ceramic coated

Spray with straight vinegar and wipe with a micro fiber. Repeat as needed. After removal, repolish and wax. 👍

I had good luck with clay, but only after a vinegar/water wipe down. I think that helps remove some of the solids, and the clay helps with the etching. I don't have any experience with Hot Sauce or other boat stuff, they may work better.

I’d get the truck cooled off...early morning or late night and go after it with white vinegar on a rag. It should clean up pretty good. Then wash and wax.

Whoa. Slow down and start easy. Wash it good with a automotive car wash soap. Do not use detergent or dish washer soap. Start with the easy least abrasive stuff, clay bar, polish, water spot remover. You will likely get 85% of it out. Then you can go with the harsh stuff on a few small areas instead of starting out by sand blasting the entire truck.

Muriatic acid wiped on with a clean cloth then sprayed off after a few seconds. Wear a respirator as it will make you cough. Nothing works better! I'm not a smart man (as Gump would say) but if there is one thing I know it is detailing! If you have an auto detail supply guy like Auto Magic that distribute to dealerships and such; those guys will usually have the industrial grade shit. It works! Nothing you will buy even from places like Chemical guys or your local shop will do the job as well.

I had some major water spots and I tried everything under the sun to remove them. I remembered when I was little my dad would clean the floors of his drag boat with wisk laundry detergent. So I went to the laundry room. Got some tide and wiped it on. Let it sit for a few minutes and rubbed it off and then washed. All was gone after that damn tide bath.

I had a similar thing happen to my vehicle in Palm Springs during the summer years ago. I had bought the paint protection package from the dealer, and they were unable to get the water spots off. They ended up having to have the front of my vehicle repainted where the sprinklers had hosed it down. Good luck...

I've received shipyard over spray on rental cars in Texas and Louisiana a few times. That stuff is brutal. Clay bar would work on that super tough stuff if done right away.
