Some occasionally ask about the Bluewater Hotel and the Desert Bar.
We put a few, simple, rough clips together of this past weekends trip so you can see kinda what it's like driving up to Kennies Desert Bar and what the indoor pool is like at the Bluewater casino.

Ya have to confess, it's one hell of a pool, and it's arguably one of the better casinos, yet on top of that, a very good casino/resort for an Indian Casino.

Time was the road to the Desert Bar (aka Kennies) was pretty rough, but you can see from our clips it's an easy run now.

You will encounter reckless idiots driving very fast & doing 4 wheel drifts on the road to/from the Desert Bar, so stay strictly to the right.
It's a County Road, not the Baja 1000.
Not unusual for the sheriffs to be waiting to hook them up back at the highway.
The neighbors do call on the crazy riders and drivers,, so drive R&P & have a DD if a drunk slams into you.

I tried to do the "pop up video" tricks. Made a hell of an effort at it. But, the Flip camera software and Apple software hate each other. Plus, Flip camera software just barely and very grudgingly works with Windows. It cut & deleted several clips we shot of the inside of the bar itself as well,, but I posted what it was willing to mix anyway.

Final Cut software shuts Flip out completely. Wife has told me to get a SONY HD video camera and quit bitching about the Flip and quit stinking up RDs site with my gripes.

So:
Note the Concrete walls and some paved road at Kennies Desert bar as we enter.
Either I missed those improvements last year(s), or Kennie put them in this past summer(s).

At the end of the video you can a catch a very rare glimpse of Kennie in the backround making burgers and Hot Dogs because his cook never showed up.

BTW,, sad to report that Kennies awesome cat Nell, is gone. It's a really sad subject with the girls that work there. We'll miss that cat too.
A real character. Nell dates back 12 years easily.

Thanks,
The wife was in agony over her latest lipo-zapp and was swelled up like a rattlesnake bit her.

So,, we cut it short, she DD'd us back to the Bluewater, then took some mega painkillers and went to bed,,,,, and called it a day.

Also a lesson, don't let the wife when under the influence of painkillers guide you when blindly backing.

You all would be proud of me,, I took the entire blame, stayed incredibally cool, and the glass gellcoat shop appt is Tuesday.

Am i reading this right that you shot that footage with a Camera phone? That's a pretty damn good phone!! Looks better then some of the 1st boating clips I originally through on the internet!

I love the footage Ross! It gives some people that have never been to the desert bar atleast some idea of what it is.. I miss the old days of heading out there and maybe passing one car on the way. Even when the new bar was 1st built it still had that "locals" or rather "weekenders" charm to it.. You needed a real offroad vehicle to get to it, and some parts of the trip weren't for the faint of heart.

Your right though the days of Hauling ass to Kennies are long gone nowdayz.. and you'd have to be an idiot to try. I'll write more on that later.

Thanks Ross

RD,

Pretty sure he is using a Flip Video. Pretty cool ultra easy to use mini camera. I picked up the black 60 minute version about a month ago after Mike (Magic34) turned me onto it.

www.theflip.com

Camera works great for up close and personal and it has been running for awhile now on the AAA batteries it came with.(The zoom and dark shots are it's weakness)

I got mine through Target.com for $119.00+ shipping

Here are a couple of the videos I have throw up on youtube

Thanks for the replies.

So, as far as I can tell, the Flip is best mixed with its own built-in software, then put the folder onto windows.

I tried mixing the scenes by directly uploading each clip to windows 'Make-a-Movie' program,, and Flip just doesn't jive well with that method.
Ya gotta send the whole pre-mixed movie in.

Shame really, the Windows "Make-a-Movie' is a great program with all kinds of cool tricks.
But,, I could be wrong,, so far this is the only route I could find.

So:

If you want to have several scenes or "clips" from your Flip uploaded to You Yube, it's best to make a multi scene movie first, and not use the Flip access to you tube.
Then put the movie in a folder (My Documents /My Videos), and then go to You Tube through IE,, then upload the entire multi scene video to You Tube, by-passing the Flip softwear Link.

In other words:

The Flip access seems to only allow one clip to be uploaded, not a multi clip movie. Clicking to You Yube through Internet Explorer will let you upload the entire mixed clips.

On our Macbook, one can view their Flip clips, but making a movie then storing it will not work Period.
And Apple doesn't yet offer an iMovie camera.

Awesome............I don't know about the Blue Water being one of the best Indian Casinos though, but I will say there pool is great. The gambling there is slow.

Anyhow, I think that videos like this should have a section of there own here on the boards:hmm Maybe an idea.....maybe not.

I have never seen the Desert Bar, so I think this is a great thread!!

Desert Bar... New years eve 2005

There was only about a 10 to 12 people including the band. Kenny said that happens some times. Hate to hear about nell, that cat was a sweetheart. Thats really sad. The last time nell disappeared she/he? finally showed up with a broken leg. Had to wear that cast 3 or 4 months.

Nell:(:(:(

Well, if people are going to continue posting videos I suppose I could put a section up? It's really not that hard? or perhaps we could just start a thread with nothing but vids?

Yeah, the gambling sux and they doubled the prices at the Willows restaurant. The buffet is a crapshoot for adults, though kids will always gladly eat that slop, and the Arcade needs an updating. Suddenly, they are very slow to throw the jerks outta the casino for some reason.

Just a matter of a short time until you'll be bothered by the scary old Geezer wearing the Gatsby Cap who seems to live at the casino.

.. But the Marina, the pool, theaters, the nightly entertainment right there with eazy access to the dance floor from the casino, the cheap bar prices,, the lower room rates are not too bad.

Bluewater is a great boating family resort. Parents can get away from the kids with some recreation or vice versa,, and a break from the kids is always nice.

The only Indian casino that I think comes close in those areas is the new Antelope Point Indian Casino in Page, at Lake Powell.

But the Navajos may be restricting how "likker" will be sold at the casino. We were there last month,, and the rumor is it may only be avail at the restaurant,,,, soooo,, that ain't gonna work too good I predict.

Everyone at the Bluewater has a drink in tow.

Nell was probably 12 to 14 years old.

As big as Nell looks, Nell was skin & bones and all fur in the winter, then a thin summer coat like a front door mat.

Most desert cats seem to be pretty lean. Nell had lots of battle scars too.
Kennys vet bills were ample.

Nell had it good. Kenny provided free housing, food, free medical, a job where it was ok to hang out in the bar & sleep.

The Blue Water pool and marina and river front rooms are great...they really make that place, it's so nice to have a slip on the river for your boat and a pool for the kids to play in.;)

The casino and the rest of the place is not that great...but it is right on the RIVER!:beer

The video is great, Ross....is there a law against "videoing while driving"?

:hmm

Alice has the same question.
So now she has a tower camera for the boat, and helmet cams for riding.

Stuff is getting cheaper and cheaper.

We have stayed at the Bluewater many times. We choose to stay there even though we have, like you, figured out all it's shortcomings. It's still a great place to stay and boat from. Don't eat there much. Eat out on the river somewhere.

One has to keep in prospective who owns it and realize this is not the type of person that gives back. Right?

A year ago my sister got married there. My dad bought the entire Willow for private Sat afternoon late lunch. Filled it right to capacity. Pops asked for a discount on the food and was told NO. Nothing, Nada, Zip.

But again I refer back to who owns it.

Another thing that sucks is having a boat in your tagged slip. Peeps have come to know that the Casino will do nothing about it after the boat store closes. We have been in a tuff with peeps over this more than once now.

More river tough guy bullshit.

We take our Kryptonite cables and lock our big Mable towable in the slip.
It keeps out the jerks.

We go down there for dinner or gambling every once in a blue moon by boat.. I just park my boat on the end dock, and have never had anyone say something to me about it?

Kinda makes me wonder why anyone would actually rent a slip there?
