Got a late start out of Sunset Harbor and a few minutes away from the ramp the Coast Guard stopped up and boarded the boat.

First thing they did was unload our weapons and scatter the ammo and mags and hid the firearms in the kitchen cabinets and back bedroom.

I was asked to stand on deck with my hands in plain sight.
They went all through the boat and our back packs and luggage leaving it all scattered across the bunks for us to put back together.

Held us up for about an hour.
I'm surprised the Govt is allowed to do something like this.

Their boat put a wonderful bruise on our nicely polished gellcoat.

They had combat Jungle boots on and my deck is full of skidmarks.
Hope the rest of the trip goes better.

You should get a couple of signs to put on the boat.

"Please remove combat boots BEFORE boarding vessel

They probably wouldn't see the humor in that...

That just plain old sucks ass. I can live with the CG doing there job, doing inspections. Leaving a mess, scuffing your deck with their shoes, damage to your gel. That's fuckin bullshit. :thumbsdown

I hoped I warned you Ross, if not I should have in other posts. We have been through this twice and we are a regular in Sunset.

It's real fun when the Navy comes to town. Same shit, different colored boat.

Boarding your vessel is one thing.
Disrespecting your vessel and trashing your property in a search is another.
I know it may be so much pissing in the wind, but based on what you have given us, I would be looking for some complaint forms, and contacting my elected officials.

Yep, they have the right to board but destroying the fit & finish of your vessel is another. File a Congressional complaint and they will have to respond. Probably won't fix the boat but if enough boaters in that area can show a pattern than the leadership will have to fix the problem.

Lots of horror stories off the east coast with the USCG looking for drugs coming into the country and private yachts being destroyed.

Yep, in San Diego bay we have DEA, CG, Naval Security, Harbor police etc...

Been boarded more than a couple times, seems like at least once a year when coming back from fishing in Mex waters.

Did you comment to the C.O. about the gel spot, boot marks and trashing your luggage? You have every right but remember if you don't stand up for yourself it will keep happening.

That sucks. In my 5 years of boating in and out of Newport Harbor and running up the coast I was never boarded or hassled once, but I think things have changed over the last few years.

Hopefully that is the worst of your trip and things go well from here. Looking forward to your next trip recap.

This is the way our country is headed. Most people think you are a conspiracy theorist if you talk about stuff like this happening more than it should. But, once it happens to you the reality sets in that the gov is, in fact, taking over our lives and we are losing control.

Although I understand that the CG has had these powers for many years, the complete disrespect for US citizens and their rights has become the norm it seems.

There is not much we can do about it but some day it will come to a head and people will stop putting up with this type of shit. Don't know if it will happen in my lifetime though.:hmm

Huntington Harbor-Sunset Beach area is accessed via Alamitos Bay, and can be closed at ANY time by the government. As locals know Navy ships dock there often, I noted twice this past week.

The ships are re supplied, most often with weapons. Armed guards watch the ships 24/7, on the water and off, this IS a military area and will always be so. It is part of the Seal Beal Naval Weapons Station. Adjacent to the dock area are thousands of acres with housing, and underground munitions bunkers, all with train tracks winding throughout. A main track is under PCH and leads to the dock area. PCH is a memorial highway dedicated to submariners from WWI.

The water is patroled by hard shell Navy and CG vessels, some with 30 and 50 cals mounted, this is serious stuff especally when a ship is at dockside. When the ship is in movement, in or out, NO ONE can enter or depart Alamitos Bay.

I have been stopped, and they are really serious, no playing around when a ship is in port, and the first thing they do is ID all weapons on board. I do not know the details, but the CG and militay have broad powers after 911, and i would think are on high alert when a ship is docked.

Just an FYI from someone who has been in this area for 40 years.

In SD bay we used to be able to boat right up to the carriers and check them out, now they have 24/7 naval security that chases anyone away from the 100+yard perimeter buoy line they have set up.

It's a bummer because that was always cool to show people.

We have been escorted twice into Huntington Harbor by the Navy. Usually come on 16, hail the boat name, switch us to 22, ask if were all citizens, and then say follow us. Better than becoming Swiss cheese I guess. When we leave out early to fish almost a guarantee we will be asked something.

Sunday morning 5am were going to hunt fish. I am sure we will be greeted.

At the island its Fish and Game. Same shit.

IMO if they search it they should be respectful about damage and so on.Now if they find something illegal then its wide open.

But after a search and teardown nothing found it should be put back to the way it was before they started.

Something else that pisses me off is the Border patrol checkpoints having the dogs paws on your vehicle when your passing through. The checkpoint leaving El Paso is the worst.

3 yellowtail and 3 dorado to 20lbs today. Roughly at the 9 mile bank. On the 9 at 3:30pm heading in at 6:15.

Not bad for a short afternoon. Should just get better.

Our US Navy has a few ammunition/weapons loading depots on the west coast. One happens to be at the Los Alamitos/Seal Beach facility. This depot was there prior to Huntington Harbor and the "Sunset Beach" public launch ramp. HH and the public ramp exist with certain restrictions concerning the depot. One is the event of a "loading Operation". You're fortunate that you were able to launch and pass through this weapons depot. BUT, if the CG boarding party were out of line, then, by all means contact USCG Sector LA/LB. The Captain of the Port/Sector Commander is Capt. James D. Jenkins.
I have worked directly with our USCG for many years and find them to be professional and reasonable, particularly at the upper levels. "Loose canons can and do exist at some levels." If this is the case, commanding officers would welcome your report.

"Late start" ? What time of day was that" ? "unload our weapons" . . So, you were passing thru a US Navy Weapons loading stations with "loaded weapons" on your boat? WTF - this just gets better. "Stand on the back deck with hands in plain sight"? surprised you weren't CUFFED. "deck full of skidmarks"? - The first time "Abdul and his buddies" do something REALLY stupid in one of our weapons stations they will likely leave more than "skidmarks".

Sounds like you have the same attitude as these assholes that think the gov can do anything they want. Since when is it illegal to have a loaded weapon in your domicile in the USA? Even in Kalifornia it is still legal. The TPC boat would qualify as a domicile AFAIK since it is designed to live aboard.

TPC broke no laws and was treated like a criminal. I have no problem with the search procedures and precautions in this high security area but to compare him to "Abdul" and suggest he be "cuffed" just shows how arrogant and ignorant you are.

Bottom line is that these thugs did not respect TPC nor his property. This job can be done with respect and these thugs clearly did not show any.:grumble:

We (citizens & residents) are losing our rights quickly these days especially our right to privacy. Look up in the skies and you'll see more and more drones surveilling US as the police departments and other agencies all want to record everything we do wherever we are.

People need to stand up for their rights including the right to privacy and not be spied on by our government.

That said, there is one issue that the CG was obviously very concerned about - suicide attack on a Navy ship and/or the Naval Weapons Station. Think about the USS Cole attack - since then things have changed and the military is under huge pressure to prevent another occurrence especially here at home and at a Naval Weapons Station.

I understand you're pissed and you should be - but file a complaint and enjoy the fishing

Because your attitude sux

If you're working for the American
People(getting paid or funded through
Tax money)
You are there to serve and protect
Us
Understand that next time you board
One of our vessels.

Not sure when people that work for us
Decided that they were better than us

Remember A large percentage of us are
Armed, you should be trained in this!

Don't disrespect us because when the shit really goes down it will be Us armed US citizens that have Your back!!!

I doubt it. The guy's been violated and disrespected and you don't forget stuff like that easily--at least I don't.

No normal thinking American, doing nothing wrong will ever forget being stepped on by out of control government power.
