Difference between dealing with a guy like Preston and other outfits is Preston will 100% make this right.

The true testament to a company isn’t when things are peachy and going 100% right. The testament to a company is when things go wrong and how they handle it.

Been there. Worst experience ever. Dad's Hallett when I was probably 22. Pulling friend skiing and boat started smoking out of exhaust but still running ok. We were so close to ramp I picked him up and tried to putt back. BOOM. Boat is on fire. Engine cover blew off and hit friend in the head. I scrambled around like an idiot thinking I am going down with boat. Other friend was smart enough to grab fire extinguisher. We got towed back to ramp at Moonridge and SO shows up by land wanting registration and confirm I had a throwable and lifes jackets. I was already on the trailer. I was ready to lose my mind....Fuel line was old and cracked, leaked.....Boat was not maintained as good as it should have been.....We were lucky...…. This here is just is awful......

Even the best fall down sometimes.
Sad to see this.
I know it gets old, but I can't express the need for proper fire suppression enough.
It has saved my life and possibly others.
Please, Take the time.

Damn I feel bad for the owner, and the seller. Glad nobody (reportedly) got hurt. I drooled over the ad for that boat. High on my list of "almost attainable baller" boats.:(

That’s EXACTLY where I was! I’d looked at the listing on the Horizon website at least once or twice a week for months. Just discussed it with my brother in law last week. Crazy.

And don't remove the antisiphon valves!!!! In fact, when they are accessible, pull the fitting and make sure the check ball didn't get some crap behind it. Otherwise, you will just be fueling the fire.

Agreed! My last jet boat I inspected all fuel devices, antisipons were clean and operating correctly, I found an undersized barb fitting for the fuel line, replaced it with the correct size, fill tubes cracked and replaced those. Good for peace of mind knowing you personally inspected your fuel system. But i admit that was after taking the boat out on a few runs.

good for you not removing antiphon valves, one the most misunderstood safety items in your boat. they have nothing to do with engine function and every thing to do with your fuel tank being emptied into the bilge. think of the route of your fuel line on its way to the fuel pump, it likely travels below the level of fuel in the tank, a leak in that fuel line will siphon until it reaches the point where the line leak and fuel level in the tank. its a simple ball and spring needng a small amount of vacuum to unseat the ball. and its required by the USCG. may have nothing to do in this case, but important non the less.

Not to poke fun at a shitty situation... but this does mean theres a perfect new trailer sitting in the parking lot that no one needs anymore. Could probably toss an offer...

Sad situation but somebody’s insurance will take care of this. Luckily all are safe.
