Pretty sure the clutch is on its way out....delayed going into forward not reverse. The delay has slowly been getting longer and was hoping to make it thru summer but not looking to good.
How hard is it to replace one? Any special tools?

It takes a special wrench to remove the retainer nut. It's something an experienced Merc mechanic should do in my onion. There is a good chance the area the clutch rides on in the gear, will have wear that is not visible to the naked eye. Also there are needle bearings that support the top and bottom of the shaft as well and under and on top of the clutch that need close inspection. Also the fwd and rev gears must be timed to the pinion gear.
Not a good home repair.
