Had the boat serviced recently and was told the drive was showing graphite like material on the drive plug and should be ready to rebuild the drive next winter.

I was a bit surprised on the rebuild cost with all new gears, ect but keeping the same shafts.

It’s a 97’ 502 and bravo 1 all stock with 355hrs on the meter. So it’s not too “high” performance.

Who should I inquire about rebuilding the drive? Should I also look at beefing it up any when I do?

Look for a deal on a new one. Just swap it out for new.

What was the rebuild cost if you don’t mind me asking?

Agree on starting to hunt for a deal on a drive now, swap and sell yours.

Or run it till it pops. Don’t ask @OldSchoolBoats for a tow though.

$4600 for rebuild using existing shafts.

It’s an older outdrive so can any year fit on the same gimble? (Not sure if that’s the correct terminology)

No reason to hit up @OldSchoolBoats, I have tow service. Lol

I was going to guess $4500.

My first thought is yes pretty much they will swap, but I’d get a 2nd opinion from someone with more knowledge on the subject.

The swap itself would take 20 minutes.

Your Bravo needs all new gears after 350 hours? WTF?

RD

I was just told there is graphite material on the drain plug and should put it on the calander for next winter rebuild and that it’s better to rebuild than wait till it grenades.

Something with helicoil cut gears don’t shave like straight cut gears do showing a rebuild is needed. So in therory it’s harder to tell if helicoil gears are needing replacing before it grenades.
