So after seeing the BW Casino bankruptcy tread I did a little search because it just didn't add up, here are few articles and press releases that add up to several millions in water leases, grants and a $100 million in crop revenue annually also these revenues will continue to increase for several years to come.

I understand that CRIT is helping other states in their efforts to share and conserve water and at the same time being well paid for it along with federal grants as well to maintain canals.

So with a nice revenue stream how does a Bankruptcy happen ?

"Tribes, in general, are powerful players in the Colorado River basin, holding approximately 20 percent of the water rights, some 2.9 million acre-feet. In interior Arizona and in other states they have negotiated lease deals that secure long-term water availability for cities while bringing in revenue for the tribe."

"CRIT pledged to fallow farmland and leave 50,000 acre-feet per year in Lake Mead for three years, starting in 2020. For its effort, the tribe will be paid $38 million dollars."

"Then came the referendum in 2019, when more than 60% of voters approved the plan to seek federal legislation to lease water. The tribes’ leaders said the result showed they have a mandate to move toward a goal of making available up to 150,000 acre-feet of water per year for off-reservation use, while rotating the fallowed lands and keeping other farmland in production."

I think and I don't know anything but the casino i would think is its own business separate of the other stuff so although they are doing great with the water the casino is not holding its own

Just like everything these days , the few people at the top benefit from everything that is granted the Tribe . Money does not trickle down to the more needy members . Arnold in his 11th hour as governor rubber -stamped quite a few approvals for Indian casinos . What do yo think that netted him ??

And seems the Indian casinos are still closed. We went up river last week and the Avi beach was still roped off. As well their parking lot never seems to have more than 25-30 cars out there vs 100’s on a regular weekday and packed on any given weekend.

Interesting how an organization that brings in Hundreds of Millions per year for just not using their water on 50K Acres that they weren’t farming anyways can go broke? 🤦‍♂️ Never realized farming was that profitable, lol. I just know they haven’t spent the money on remodeling the BW Rooms or Infrastructure at any of the Riverfront Housing Parks they own up and down the river.

Fuck the Indians...🤷🏻‍♂️

I never really understood the hostility towards them.. they don’t bother people off the res for the most part.. why hate on em.

You don’t have to goto their casinos or places of biz if you don’t want.

Personally I like gambling at some of the casinos.. I just think that their own politics and business management is horrible across most if not all the tribes.. it really sucks for the lower people on the totum pole..

And yes it is a prime example of what happens when you give people a meager amount of money as a supposed hand up.

Go to any river community like water wheel, lost lake, aha quin .... you name it. Those places got fucked last year during covid because CRIT decided to have their own rules. EVERY park they have gone into and taken over has been turned into nothing immediately.

Go to the Safeway grocery store in Parker, look at the additional 10% tax on your grocery bill for the CRIT.... I didn't believe it until I saw my receipt. 10% ADDITIONAL TAX.

God knows about the running man fuel stations and the tax situations there..

They are not getting meager amounts of money. They get boat loads of Federal $$ some of the numbers are fucking staggering depending upon what reservation.

You might want to get the facts about COVID and the Tribes. The Native communities across the Nation were hit harder than any other demographic in the United States. CRIT, with about 15% of La Paz County population accounted for near half of the cases and about 60% of the deaths. This is pretty close to percentages in Indian Nations across the country. Chalk it up to poor housing, several generations in one household, and other factors unique to their communities.

What they wanted to do with the closures and restrictions on their land, was to try and limit "outsiders" that would increase their exposure to the virus. Right, wrong, or indifferent, it's their land and they did what they, and their Medical-Emergency Management team, felt was in their best interests.

As far as any bankruptcy, don't even begin to think it. The various Indian Tribes across the land, were very well bought off by Biden with the American Recovery Act. I've only been able to find two specific funding targets for CRIT with $1.8 Million for housing and $31,000 for their Library. There's probably more flowing in for other purposes, and it's all in addition to their normal flow of Federal wampum.

The Tribes will come out of this just fine. Remember that they mortgaged everything they owned, the Casino, their Resorts, the Shopping Centers, EVERYTHING to the tune of over $20 Million to try and get their own special version of a Tribal Gaming Law passed back in 2002. That lost.

Regarding the Fuel Stations, Tribes are not required to pay Arizona State Fuel Taxes, so the 18 to 26 cents a gallon that other stations are paying to the State, goes straight to the Tribe. Their gas is usually priced about the same as the off brand stations in town, so they sure aren't passing any tax "savings" on to the customer. It's THEIR enterprise, so they don't have to slap some tax on it. They get every penny (less Federal Fuel Taxes) anyway. Another thing to keep in mind when buying there, is that they also don't have to allow Arizona Dept of Weights and Measures to come in and check calibration and verify that the gallon you pay for, is the gallon you get. Now there's no evidence that they are or would short a couple of ounces per gallon. Just saying that there's no one checking the pumps.

As RD said. You do not have to go there if you don't want. I do think they should tell you about the 10% tax before you pay it.

I heard of a story from "The Rez" last summer where a family got together for an event and 24 of the 26 attendees were later diagnosed with Covid. Some of those folks passed away which is unfortunate. But that seemed to have been spread amongst family members, not necessarily from outsiders.

I think what would really torque my jaws is to have been paying for leased land and access to a Federal Waterway where that access had been denied.... even though lease agreements were met by the payee. That's some bullshit right there.

Last trip there, the casino was packed with people dropping coin gambling & eating. The ramp and beach is great resource for customers but the cost of baby sitting all the drunks on the beach with their own beer and food isn't netting beans in money, maybe couple bucks for dock fees, just extra security and clean up cost. I doubt the spread of covid on a open beach even comes close to everyone milling around in casino touching everything .

I have no knowledge how actual Native American "tribes" function, so here is my dumb question:
Do tribes operate solely on their own or do they belong to a conglomerate of tribes...in other words, does the BW casino interact/ join forces (lack of better terms) with say the Avi or other casinos in the state?
Jump to So Cal (Temecula) There are many pretty nice casinos in the area, Pala, Pechanga and the list goes on, do these guys support each other or is it battle of the tribes, last man standing sort of thing...
Wondering why the "tribes" would let a toilet like the BW operate in such a dysfunctional way, seems the Native Americans would put pressure on them to get their act together. Do the "citizens" of Parker have any say what goes on at the BW or is the reservation hands off playing the the soverant (sp?) nation card?

Considering that 79 people died in the entire county from having covid at the same time they died, since we now know that many people didnt actually die from covid as first reported, that number of 79 is pretty fucking low

La Paz
2473 total cases
79 deaths

I would say that they were fucking stupid over the entire matter. The tribe should work more on alcohol related injuries and deaths in the tribe if they really want to help the tribe lol. Closing beaches to outsiders is some pretty shade ass shit to pull. Leave it to America to allow conquered people to run there own automatous zones.

I don't hate them or anyone really, but, back in the 70's they used to cut our docks loose at night and do all sorts of shenanigans on the lower river. Finally left Red Rooster in the 80's when they renegotiated the land lease. Lots of Jewish lightning in those years.

I’m sure I’m one of many that have been kicked off “their land” and had a trailer, boat and two jet skis “donated” to the tribe VIA their bullshit politics. I grew up at the Needles Rod And Gun Club ( 1 mile North of the Landing) as a kid going to the lake almost every weekend and most holidays until one day they decided to void the lease (overnight without warning) lock the gate and guard it with tribal cops and the feds. They even arrested a few members that tried to enter the property to retrieve their boats/trailers. This was over 20 years ago but it set a standard by which they would continue to do the same up and down the Colorado River deciding who could stay and who got locked out. Still posses me off to this day and I have never given a dime to the prairie people since.

Easy. It’s “their land” and they decide how you use it and when. The 99 year land lease is a joke and no court in the land will hear your case. Ours is still pending if you can believe that shit. Let me see if I can find the newspaper article about it.
As stated in an earlier comment they shut down the lower river parks and wouldn’t let “owners” into their parks to even pull their boats out all last summer due to COVID. Dumbest shit I have ever heard. I did get a lot of new neighbors at McIntyre because of it. Some even bought second boats just so they didn’t miss boating season.

not sure how they can just take your possessions.. ??

When they took over the west bank of the river in 1974 they simply threw out many people who had Calif. deeds to their property, and paid property tax to Riverside county. Many were elderly and retired. My family lost our places then. Good luck winning a judgement in Indian court or Federal court.

They took a good high school friends compound over by havasu landing back in the day. Her dad had built this place over 20 years and it was nice he had passed away when it happened but basically my friend and her mom were walked off property at midnight to a dirt road to never return left in the dark of the night, pre cell phone, supposedly with guns but i wasn't there so hard to say but no reason for her to lie. they got jeeps, jet skis, 4 wheelers and all kinds of shit that was there. Few neighbors caught wind of it and destroyed their own pads.

Have you not seen the homes on the water north of Havasu Landing ?

And the story behind it ?

That's called taking possession !!

During the Covid shutdown a friend of ours got kicked out of one of CRIT's Mobile Home Parks lower river, this couple are in their mid 60's and wanted to retire at this particular Park.

They showed up one weekend to a sawcut portion with an open trench across their driveway. They had a hard time getting their equipment in n out so they complained to the management for a few months, not only did they increase rent but they were asked to sell and leave the park.

I guess they backfilled the trench but never re-poured the trench with concrete pretty cool huh !!!

I own a home at Lost Lake and pay my space rent every month. CRIT didnt take over until the first of this year, 2021. All last spring and summer I came and went from my home and was not bothered once! Yes, my launch ramp was closed as was the road to our sandbar, but I was never "locked out". I would roll in on a friday night and pretly much stayed at my home. Saturday morning I would hook up the boat and pack for the day and head down to Mayflower, when I was done, back to LL and have dinner, then keep to ourselves.

More over, I know no one was locked out, because probably 75% of the travel trailers that were in the park left. One friend actually moved his to Mayflower for the season, then back to LL!

Hey now, LL is still alive and well! Our general store and gas pumps dont exist right now, but, our ramp and sandbars are open. Headed out tomorrow night for the long weekend actually 👍👍

Cause they are above the law. Their land, their rules.

They lease you land for 99 years. After you've built your house and all that, they decide to not honor the rest of the lease, and your new house is now their new house.

I do not know anything about The CRIT, but I have a Ton of first hand experience with the Dakota and Sioux Tribes back in South Dakota. You know, whatever did happen with in the "White Man" is bad,sad but what it is. We have bent over backwards to Make things "RIGHT" you know, throwing Mas Amounts of "$" at them. They can go to College 100% free, They Go to the Top of SBA Loan Pile, We built hundreds maybe Thousands of New Homes, that within a year were destroyed, all the Wiring,Copper Pipe and amything else of value stripped out and soldfor BOOZE. the homes were left open to the Weather with Animals and ? walking in and out Shitting and Pissing on everything. You can not give Someone more than the American People have to the "Native American Tribes. The Old statement, that you have to Want to help yourself to succeed.
I have ZERO respect for any of them, and once "Gambling" entered the scent it just made the Money flow more nothing else. I have watched Tribe members walk by Trash on the Floor and the Grounds and never even thik about bending down to keep their Property clean and tidy. They have a "Free" ride with the American Political System and always will.

WE FEEL GUILTY, for what we did to the "POOR POOR "RED MAN"

The main difference in the US Government dealings with Native Americans, is that the Government entered into legally enforceable Treaties with Native Americans, guaranteeing them certain rights and benefits, in exchange for them ceding their land. They then proceeded to break nearly every covenant in those treaties. The most egregious was that the US Government felt that the Indians would not be able to manage the revenue from mineral, gas and oil rights on their land, so the BIA "managed" those funds for them. What they actually did was piss away over $176 Billion dollars that rightfully belonged to the Tribes and individual members. The US settled it for $3.4 Billion.

I agree that Indian Tribes are the perfect example of a dependent culture, but we really can't blame them for it. It was our Government that made them that way. And as long as our elected idiots (democrats) cherish that particular voting block, they will continue to throw as much money at them as they can. Reservation Gaming was supposed to be a way for them to achieve that "self determination" they are always talking about. But even while they bring in Billions with Casinos, the amount of Federal dollars going to them has been increasing every year, just as it's done for decades.

My biggest complaint, even though they have been raised as an Entitlement Breed, it would be nice once in awhile to see one of them just Take the BULL By the Balls, and do something without holding their Hand.

Damn, they could be a Dr. Attorney or any other Professional without a Dime Out Of Pocket. BUT!! The Monthly "CHECK" does Not make most HUNGRY.?

No different than the current unemployment crisis. If you give people just enough money they won’t ever want to strive to be anything better IMO.

4k a month covers rent, maybe a car, beer, phone, TV and food. Not in that order.

As @BoatCop points out though this is an issue that started due to US getting greedy.

The Native Americans, African Americans and Chinese have some horrifying early USA stories.

I have no idea how to “make it right” or get everyone on the same page.

A lot of statements, regarding Indians here are myths.

No. They all don't get checks every month, every year, or some not at all. What they might get are portions of the mineral, gas, oil leases, or money from the Tribal enterprises. The majority of tribes don't give ANYTHING, cash-wise, to their members.

No. They don't get free college. Some might get scholarships, that they apply for and have to qualify for them, just like everyone else. The individual Tribe might be the ones offering the scholarships, but they aren't "free", as the Tribe pays the tuition, fees and other costs.

No. They are not tax exempt. They pay all Federal Taxes, such as Income Taxes, they also pay state taxes (income, property and sales) on income received, property owned, and items bought off of their Reservation.

They are US citizens, so are able to vote, just like every other US citizen. The "Sovereign Immunity" is granted to the Tribal Government itself, not individual Indians. They can be sued just like anyone else. While the 15th Amendment to the Constitution granted all citizens the Right to Vote, regardless of race, it took a literal act of Congress (the Snyder Act) to give Indians that right. And even then some states still didn't allow it till fairly recently. Arizona didn't give it to them until 1948, when the AZ Supreme Court struck down a portion of the AZ Constitution that prevented them from voting.

My wife is a card carrying Cherokee Nation Citizen, as are my son and daughter. They pay all taxes, just like everyone else, and have received zero monetary benefits from the Tribe, or the Federal Government based on their status as Tribal Citizens. My son attended college, has two Bachelors Degrees and a Masters. We, and student loans, paid for every bit of it. No special student loan or pay-off programs. He makes payments every month, just like everyone else. Plus he worked all through College to help pay for it. The one benefit they DO get is Medical Care, but that must be provided by Indian Health Service facilities, or referred from there, in kind of a HMO system. Insurance pays the majority of those costs, with IHS covering any co-pays or deductibles, as long as care is provided by them. If care is obtained out of the system, they pay like everyone else. As far as my wife is concerned, as she's now on MEDICARE and my TRICARE, she wouldn't pay anything anyway. And my kids live too far from any IHS facility, for it to be practical.
