This state is so fucked up. It’s getting dumber by the day...

A seemingly innocuous air pollution proposal before the California Legislature could ban the sale of portable generators in the state, and have a crippling effect on RVers who rely on them to power their rigs when shore power is not available.

According to definition of the proposal, the ban could include the use of generators installed in most motorhomes and other motorized RVs. RVers who travel with trailers and fifth wheels would be unable to use portable generators.

In a state that has yearly rolling brown outs, power outages when the winds blow too hard which happens for a few months every year let's outlaw gas generators. This makes all the sense in the world to the people who are building a bullet train that won't go over 80 mph between two cities that have a population who will never use it. The level of stupidity in this state continues to amaze me.

More people need to know that generators are included in this law and how stupid that is.

Just think of the clean refreshing cool crisp air….. all while dropping a Duce on some random public sidewalk…..

only in California !!

no gas powered leaf blowers, lawn movers, small generators, charter fishing boats, motorcycles and soon to be no cars!
But coming soon TP holders on street lights

you have to ask what’s next?

Unfortunately CARB has too much power and the general voting public has zero experience to relate to RV’ers or campers who rely on generators. It’s inevitable at this point.

I’m looking into lithium and solar for my bus right now. Even with a giant lithium battery setup and like 4000w of solar on the roof I can barely run ONE ac for like 5 hours. Let alone two. And then there’s the environmental impact of a) making the batteries in the first place and b) there’s little recycling effort made for them once they’re consumed.

any currently owned small engines are fine to run. they just won't sell any new ones once that law becomes efffective. the whole thing is stupid. I didn't see snything
about not being able to use generators......

once again calif government thinks they're smarter than everybody else and wants to change the world in their views

So i was told a possible reason for the stupidity!

If they ban everything conservative minded people enjoy, they’re hoping to run them off and keep their Liberal Utopia.

Our gardener had to get electric equipment because a couple posh neighborhoods he works in have noise ordinances. Spent lots of $ to get them too. Told me every tool has failed or died in the first year.

What amazes me is how many people there are who not only don't know about shit like this . . . but really don't care !
Case in point . . . my neighbor who's a retired HB fire engineer . . . it seems every other week we are chatting about some new law, regulation, or restriction and he always says, 'No I haven't heard about it". Then when I get all fired-up and say "fuck this state, and fuck Newsom", he looks at me like I'm some out of control wacko, and just replies, "Welp, watcha gonna do"??? . . . and walks away.

I live in a fairly conservative (by CA standards) neighborhood . . . and the amount of 'I don't give a shit' blows me away. Don't even get me started about the infiltration of left-wing wack-jobs who've infected our city with their Prius, Telsa's, Subaru's, and Volvo's.

Funny . . . on the rare occasion I have to go into my local Trader Joe's , I always like to throw on my Sig Sauer ball cap just for the reactions I get which are priceless.

That’s about the only thing I could think of that makes sense of this. If you wanna kill the RV Travel Industry and the Billions of dollars it brings into the state every year that is one way to do it.

This state has already lost approx 50% of the conservative base via relocation over the last 2 decades. Bills like this can only get the other 50% to think about doing the same.

A true Socialist Utopia only has 2 Classes of people. The Ruling Class and the Servant Class. So unless yore Uber Rich the only others left will be serving their daddy’s every need. No Thanks!!

Our friend is a realtor and she is doing very good this year selling in California. She said since July 2020 she has helped four buyers purchase and All we’re going from condos to starter homes. None of her sales are repurchasing in California.

I read a bill is trying to be passed to exclude RV related generators, but will most likely fail.

My yard guy said, if this passes he will retire. The cost to repurchase equipment, then charge it nightly and during the day will not be worth it. Batteries lifespan is a concern as well. He thinks he will have to purchase new batteries yearly and that eats up his profits. If his son takes over, his son stated, owners will have to provide equipment, he will only service those who have equipment for him to use.

Why wouldn’t you just continue to use/repair the equipment you have? Drive to Vegas and buy more when needed.

Using the “owners equipment” will end in tears. When the gardener is the only one using the tools and he can’t do his job because the batteries are smoked, and/or the owner didn’t charge them, who will get blamed? Even better when the tools break, the gardener will be blamed and told to fix or replace them since he’s the only one using them anyway.

If I’m on the hook for providing the tools, I’m paying way less.

My yard guy already bought battery stuff he has to use in RSF & similar areas, all have failed in one way or another in less than a year. He says "no bueno" .
Lifespan is definitely not there.
.
Your guy worrying about batteries is understandable but I'm sure his gas equipment didn't run on water either. I'd bet his monthly fuel costs exceeds a new battery cost.

He just needs to buy a gas generator to charge them during that day :). or buy a new F150 with a built in generator.

I think Newscum/this law has $30 Million set aside to help lanscapers buy new equiptment.

This law is a joke but I would not be sad to see gas leafblowers go away.

correct me if I'am wrong, but the way I read it, you will not be able to run your existing generator in your RV when camping on public land, so everybody out at glamis for the week will not be able to run their generator.

I was wondering that to, will existing generators in RV be grandfathered in. or just new builds. oh wait, this is not a law just a proposal....and does it apply to just gas generators and propane ok ?

If that is true it fits right into the CA playbook.

There is a guy in Havasu I see riding an electric motorcycle, black enduro. All I hear is a whirring noise and the chain as he boogies by on Kiowa.

This could get interesting. Does it mean that new RVs sold in CA won't have generators? If you buy a used one out of state will you need to remove the gen before registering? Will the big baller diesel pushers just add another alternator and and run that big diesel to charge batteries?

Yes, no and no

Yes to new sales
Grandfathered in so not to worry there
And new big baller will equip there ride with a generator out of state. The toyhaulers will prep the unit for generator but not install one. You will have to do that on your own

As one person told me not long ago, "We all need to be a little inconvenienced and uncomfortable to help save the planet".
Fuck that, how can we camp in our motorhome without power to run the central vac, heated floors and washing machine? It’s Bullshit, it’s hard enough to roughing it when camping.

It’s going to be interesting for sure. The generator portion will most likely be eased. The larger units will be allowed. The utility companies are giving rebates to make sure that their customers have reliable power. 😏
The biggest problem will be with small engine manufacturers. Honda didn’t bother getting their latest inverters Carb approved because they see the writing on the wall. Honda and the rest are slowing production of small engines. Supply on gas trimmers/mowers/riders will be tight at best for the next 2 years.

Just to be clear, are we all reading the same assembly bill 1346 - chapter 753 ?

That states this ? So unless this isn't what's being discussed and unless there's a huge Crystal ball being consulted, it seems there's a lot of assumptions being made as if they were in fact already law.
This Blows, but to what extent ? And When ? I've not read that this board has made those determinations yet -- or have they ?

Who said it was already law? It clearly states what is coming in the future in the article. Who specifically assumed it was law in this thread?

What it clearly states is the board is being charged with adopting regulations that provide a feasible solution to the emissions being generated, by a certain date or when feasible -- the word being used twice in that paragraph.
Where are these specifics you're reading ?
Other than NEW after 2024 or when feasible. Where does it state generators ?

I'm not defending the damned bill, I'm asking where you're reading all these specifics ?

Show me the damned sentence in that bill that all these assumptions are being generated by --- speaking of generators ---
Spiltting hairs your ass ;), I worked under federal contracts for much of my career, we made a living splitting regulatory hairs and getting paid extras for doing so. 😁

Same with showerheads, pesticides and weed killer. I get that out at the river.

Where you finding the 49 state pesticides and weed killers --- Tractor Supply ? Seems whenever I've looked for that stuff at HD or Lowes in Havasu, it's always the same CA crap.

I meant the assumption that everyone assumed it was law already😉😊
I'm sure most of us assume it will pass & therefore the inmates must bitch about it.😁

You’re struggling to see the correlation to the bill? Do you see how broad they’re statements are? Once the bill is passed it gives them massive opportunity over a wide range of “engines.”

When it applies to government the best predictor of the future is the past. I’m not going to rely on them to spell it out for me. I know their desired result already.

The final legislation could include generators it also could not. Some of us don’t want to wait around to find out what they arbitrarily decide after the legislation is passed :)
