Well, before my little plane ride/road trip Wed. with Chris, we got a sneak-in peek at the new Cabelas next to Boomtown near Reno.
Never been into one of those places before, but bought lots-o-stuff from 'em outta the catalogs over the years.
:D:D:D
The place is, to put it mildly, awesome. Never seen so many non-fossil fueled toys in one place in my entire life.
I gots me a brand-new credt card.:fsakes:smackhead
:D
Went back today with Cindy, it was the official Opening Day.
They expect 45,000 folks to come through the doors during the first three days they're open.
Nothing but grinning faces everywhere you looked, except for the California residents who were pissed off because they couldn't buy firearms there without shipping them to a Ca. FFL dealer before taking possession.
This state is so screwed up.
Did manage to buy me a new airgun, a 'scoped Remington with muzzle break, 1000 fps.
I intend to make life very difficult for the damn gophers and other various pest-like life forms in the neighborhood.
Cin bought a few things, I got a couple of shirts and a new Carhart vest.
We also checked out some very nice target style bows. Cindy expressed an interest in getting into target Archery; we have the room here for a nice little range, so come next spring we'll be back the the "Big C" getting fitted and trying out some models on their indoor range.
I could spend a small fortune in there on a monthy basis.
I will spend a few bucks in there everytime I drive by.
Check it out if your in the area.
The little dinning area is nice. Great chow. The Elk roast sandwich is killer.

My buddy did a lot of electric in there and walked me through a month before it opened. Heck of a lot of work.

Cabelas should be much better. I bought a bow last year and got several of my buds to get one. We have a ball shooting those things, Lots of fun...

Are they any kin to Bass Pro Shops/Outdoor World?
We thought they were seperate, but are one and the same.

Fun places to hang out for a few hours or more.
Can easily drop $200 on a single shopping bag full of stuff.

I'm sure in Nor Cal / Nevada the stores should do even more biz than down here.
Found their prices equal to or even better than Wal Mart on things like QUALITY dock line, docking & anchoring hardware.

Seems one of the most expensive blood sports is Duck Hunting. Or it's near the top of the list.
I woulda never wagered it is, but it seems that way watching my dad and his buddies go through the yearly ritual.

Lot's of good Duck Clubs in No Cal. Eldorado, Cool, Auburn ect that take the bite outta the cost.
Hopefully a Cabellas does too.
It ain't cheap.

Ross I was looking at some rifles when one of the guys behind the counter told me that last Tuesday evening they "opened" for 2 hours for the contractors who worked on the place to buy stuff at employee discount prices. it gave them a chance to test the computers, registers, etc.
In two hours they sold 25k worth of firearms.
All of the Reno TV stations were there doing live shots of the happy folks wandering in and out of the store.

The store is within 3 miles of the Cal/Nevada border on I-80.
They are on the Nevada side.
Guy was overheard saying they will never open a store in Cali due to the absurd gun control laws, and the constantly changing nature of those laws as they rattle through the appeals courts, etc.
I agree on the prices. Not the k-mart of sporting goods, but the quality of the stuff is good, and you can get your hands on it before you drop your money on the counter.
I went through the marine section and my view mirrored yours.
By the way, next time i go i'll get the scoop on the camping for hAN next year. There was just too many people around to even try it yesterday.

We have some good spots that are pretty close to home. The new 3 1/2 shotguns are 12-1600 bucks each, and some of the tungsten and other hi end shells are almost $2 each... Lotta reach with a 3 1/2...

We'd love to bring the Golf Cart, but they're probably still not allowed.
Just the RV and us will arrive.
When is opening day we can book a RV reservation at Boomtown?

Here it comes, the blast from the past for auto buffs and rock ‘n’ roll fans, Hot August Nights 2008, Aug. 2 - 10 in venues across Reno and Sparks. Dust of the saddleshoes and bring out the bobbysox.
