How tight is tight? I’ve tightened down till it the steering wheel firms up quite a bit. When I get hard in the throttle of my RC I experience a ton of torque steer. 12 o’clock turns into about 8 o’clock and difficult to turn left. When I bought the boat the sheathing was collapsed and I put new cables and sheathing in. Afraid of over tightening and possibly collapsing again. Considering putting on a larger wheel to help out as well.

also, can you work/build a prop to rid the torque steer?

What size cable did you put in my Buddy has that set up in his Spectra and its like butter all teh way thru, not a ton of power but its doesn't push back on him, i think he has 3/16th cable, my Dad runs the little 1/8" in his wood decker.

3/16 on v drive. 1/8 on jet.

I believe it's Greg Shoemaker and another gent (Big Diesel guy) who own the Calgo stuff, have you tried to give Greg a call?

I believe Norm Grimes. Looked into it tonight, can’t find install or adjustment instructions. Looking for real word feedback

How do you guys like the calgo steering? Would you use it in a fast boat.

I talked to My dad and my friend who run these and they didn't have any specs on it either, just snugged it up tight and haven't touched it. Norm Grimes is the guy, he rebuilt my Dad's unit several years ago. Sorry, hopefully some one will chime in who went thru the same scenario.

I’ve only ever heard questionable things about the calgo setups on v-drives. Does anyone make any other viable mechanical setup outside of the old school pulley / cable setup?

Got a handle on the situation so figured I’d update if it ever helps someone out.

After discussion with several reputable folks I went back and forth between the prop and wedge rudder being an issue and what my options were. Last call was to Norm Grimes that I believe was one of the inventors of the system. Norm was super helpful and treated me like one of his regulars. Told him the frustrations and what I’d spoke to others about but he wasn’t sold on the prop and rudder being an issue. Come to find out, somebody had used some aftermarket or generic sheathing in my boat and I was experiencing collapsing and stretch. Told Norm we were trying to make the Dog & Andy show on the delta and he quickly got the correct sheathing and parts out the door. Got everything replaced and greased up and after 2 hard days on the delta I am very excited to have resolved the issue. I can drive one handed and experience minimal pull only at very high speeds, but nothing more than I’ve experienced in our new bass boat. Before I was very concerned and knew something wasn’t right and didn’t feel safe. Can’t thank Norm enough and if anybody has concerns reach out to him. We spoke again today to update him and thank him again for taking care of things.

our boats at the delta show over the weekend.

Great to hear it’s resolved. Norm Grimes is a very helpful guy , we worked out on installing the Calgo setup in our 24’ Campbell. He gave me a bunch of parts and some housing so I could get the route and proper lengths. Are you using a quadrant or tiller arm on the rudder?

Fantasty stuff Looks great. Mine is on a quadrant. Not sure a tiller arm would work properly with the calgo system.

Don does some great work on his parts. The quadrant is what Norm recommended to use.

I have run it in mine since 2007 with no issues. I like the system, very tight and responsive.

I've always liked your boat, dam it's nice and super clean rigging.
I'm pretty sure that's the direction I'm going, just needed to hear some experience with one.thanks
