California has overtaken France as the world?s sixth-largest economy, fueled by strong growth and the U.S. dollar?s gains against foreign currencies, state data released Tuesday show.
The most-populous U.S. state, with a gross domestic product of $2.5 trillion, has also eclipsed recession-plagued Brazil.
?This is the result of both good growth in California and exchange-rate movements of the U.S. dollar versus other currencies,? said Irena Asmundson, chief economist in the California Department of Finance.

Governor Jerry Brown, 78, is running the state during an economic turnaround driven by technology companies including Facebook Inc. and Apple Inc., along with agricultural and manufacturing industries that lead the U.S. Since taking office in 2011, Brown steered the state away from fiscal turmoil and persistent deficits to budget surpluses.

California grew by 4.1 percent in 2015, compared with a 2.4 percent increase for the U.S. and 1.1 percent for France, Asmundson said.
Last year, California created the most jobs of any state, more than the second- and third-most-populous states Florida and Texas combined. Four of the world?s 10 largest companies are based in California, including Alphabet Inc. and Facebook.

That's because of the rediculous taxes in california. With no wife or kids and only a mortgage I get hit real hard. I can't blame others for running from the state, I'm ready to bail too

It is because of Tech and they are going strong. :thumbsup Most large Tech brands are located in California. Smaller and startup tech brands also. Biotech too.

Tech $$ is driving our entire regions housing market to stupid levels with no sign of slowing down. They are even displacing some people in the hood in SF.:eek

While others are having a hard time or leaving the state, the tech guys are printing money and hiring.

If it wasn't for the fact this state is run by Socialists we would be #2 on that list ahead of Germany. :rolleyes:cool

That's the part I've never understood about all the haters and people wanting to bail. Within the most populous state is opportunity. People need things - figure out what they need and you're golden. :thumbsup

Exactly. People will always need to keep their food cold. That's why I'm in a great industry here in Cali. Although the central coast is about the only area in the state I'd live.

They pay cash too. Not worried about the deduction either. :rolleyes

It is just business.

Most VC firms bankroll the campaigns to lobby to get what they want. It is therefore vital to know what they want in order to capitalize on it.

If I don't agree with with it, the least I can do is capitalize on it. ;):cool

Like that is not happening now? We just won the prescription business for Calpers and the Employment Retirement System of Texas ....

That is 486K fed folks in Cali.....and 520K Fed workers in Texas..... Cali is not the only state carrying high number of fed workers...Texas is paying for the same and check your property and school taxes there to see what you are paying for....yeah, no state tax but they are paying for these people in other ways...large populous states have large pools of fed workers and associated retirement plans...

Studios are busy, but they've also gotten much smaller.

http://www.dailynews.com/arts-and-e...es-for-film-production-but-loses-market-share

For the second year in a row, California is the top state in the nation for film production. But the share of movies being shot in the Golden State fell from 21 percent in 2014 to 17 percent last year, a new study found.

Nineteen out of 109 movies released by major U.S. film companies in 2015 were produced primarily in California, according to FilmL.A., the film office for the greater Los Angeles region.

Among the 19 films were "Straight Outta Compton," "Entourage" and "The Wedding Ringer."

But California faced competition from the United Kingdom with 15 projects. Georgia and Louisiana were next with 12 projects each and Canada followed with 11.

The ONLY reason it's that large is the weather. You know it, they know it and I know it!

If it weren't for that, this state would crush Illinois as the worst state in the union.

Party on Tards!!!!!! :thumbsup

Taxes go up again.

You have one of those pensions by chance?

Nah, I wish. 20 years self-employed.

Reflecting back on it, sure wish I hadn't bought into all the hyperbole about Cali being forked...30 years ago.

I've been a studio grip for years seen Movies and TV come and go with the Tax Breaks handed out . Worked out of state for years doing movies in those tax break states too . I've been lucky to always stay working in this trade unlike a lot of people . Now that Cali has joined in on the tax rebate deal and some states/countries either cut the tax rebate rate or lost the tax breaks it's picking up again in Cali even though it's mostly TV but , it's nice to be home . Wish the big budget movies would come back man those were the good ol days . Well I'm locked in here in Cali for 8-10 more till I can retire and I might just stay cause I like it here ....
