Quick random question that popped in my mind today while packing for a family getaway to Laguna Beach before school starts back..

Do residents of California (mainly so cal area) really follow the laws regarding fire arms.. do most people not have a gun or 10 and not conceal carry?

Dont feel like you have to answer for yourself just generalize it to the people you know and can speak for..

Thank you for your reply. Being from Utah, I always carry in my vehicle and often times holstered on my body. I do not intend to in Laguna, I plan on holding a beer most of the time. It is just a question out of curiosity..

The only fighting you'd be doing in Laguna Beach is over a parking spot....[emoji23][emoji23]

That’s not my question. My question has nothing to do with me in Laguna beach

I've lived in North Laguna and a cozy village just to its north 30 years.... you'll not feel the need to have your weapons here. Most just honk their horns as earlier post mentioned regarding finding parking. Pretty much this area is inhabited by wealthy locals and the visitors that are fascinated by what an exceptionally lovely place it is. Welcome. And just a headsup; if your walking in the village with a cocktail you'll want to pour it in a inconspicuous roady cup... lots of cops around in summer tourist months with very little to do but parking and dui fines. Have fun and if you want a baller dinner hit the Montage Loft

Thank you man. I don’t plan to carry while in Laguna. Just got curious while packing for my trip.
Appreciate the recommendation on dinner.

Most people I know have something ready when they are traveling. Didn’t use to be that way but with all these crazy people shutting down freeways etc??

That would be my assumption. Appreciate the reply. [emoji482]

To your question.
When I lived in Vacaville I carried a ghost Glock over half the time.
No CCW, not registered. I wouldn’t dare carry a registered firearm there. Throw away just like all the gangsters get away with

I also had to hide all my 30 round 223 mags.
They have their rules, I have mine.
Now that I live back in the USA I no longer am a criminal, and no longer have to hide my shit from Kommiefornia.
Nothing changed except my address.

(I got rid of the ghost glock btw...lol)

I’m used to your new life in the USA so it is odd for me to think normal “typically” law abiding citizens of California don’t carry a fireman just in case..

The question as my leo buddies always say friend to friend is , "when's the last time, how likely would you to be, or have you even ever been pulled over and searched"?-

Never, not likely, never..
I’m a respectful human that drives over the speed limit. If I get pulled over, I know how to treat an officer. I will take the ticket and pay the fine. No need to cause a confirmation that escalates the stop.
Thanks for the reply.

Thats the irony.
“Law abiding citizens” are the enemy of the State in CA when it comes to 2nd amendment.
Whatever you decide DO NOT tell anyone.
Everyone I knew in Vacaville other than Napanut would have dimed me in a flash.
Trust no one. They will call the cops on you in a second. SoCal is surely worse than where I was.
I conceal here a lot but I don’t care if anyone sees it. In CA they would have called in the swat team on me.
Like you, I grew up in a place where guns were part of life. (Alaska)

I thought they were kidding me when I was told I was a State felon for merely possessing my normal stuff.

Depends on how much you have to loose or are willing to pay. I’d say most follow the rules. You can throw rocks through windows all day. Carry a mag with one too many rounds or a gun not on the list and it’s a bad day.

As a former resident: Don't ask, don't tell. I always had with me, but didn't need most times. The law would only come into question if and when the firearm(s) in question is revealed to a potential threat. Even at that point, the witnesses may or may not question the possession of the gun...meaning, if LE is not involved, no reason for anything to be mentioned.

Obviously, don't carry a fully stocked chest rig loaded with 30rd mags on the back seat.

Didn't you mean to say you can steal cars, assault people, shoplift with impunity, etc., etc.?

I am already looking for alternative routes do to some of these idiot protesters. I am going to try and circumvent Denver since they shot at motorists in one of their roadblocks. I would hate to get my new RV bloody.👎

Yes, I follow the laws, and yes I wanted to carry so I got a CCW. Really wasn't that hard.

Lived in SoCal my whole life, worked as a PI for over 30-years throughout LA and every shithole there is, but I've never carried, or felt the need to carry. And yes, I enjoy guns, too. I know another PI who illegally carries, but except for my LEO friends, I don't know anybody else who carries.

I get having one in your ride but would have it in a locked ca compliant case. Why give them a reason to haul someone who can afford the fines and court fees for everyone who can't pick up the tab. Ca is a socialist state when it comes to legal penalty unless you get a good cop. Which I do have to say there are quite a few good ones in south oc. I wouldn't risk it though.... The young powertripper could ruin your life and it's not worth it.

Oh I forgot to ad. Cops in Laguna don't have much to do.... They tend to run on the asshole side. Not all but most in my experience.

I don’t carry on my person, but keep one in the truck in a ca approved lock box, If we go to a hotel I bring the ca lock box with a cable in with me to the room.

i think anyone caught carrying illegally would be made an example of and have the entire book of charges piled on....

My dad always packed on trips across state, the river, road trips to Flagstaff, etc.

Flagstaff and guns! You just buzzed a childhood memory for me. In 1963, my Dad, a commercial sheet metal contractor, scored several BIA school contracts in Chinle, Shonto, Tuba City and a couple of other little towns on the reservation.

My Dad and grandfather built a 30,000 SF shop and two houses on the east side of Holbrook about a hundred yards south of 66 (they're still there, behind the Motel 6), and my grandfather stayed in Albuquerque to run the big shop. My family lived between Albuquerque and Holbrook until 1967, when Dad closed down that shop.

My Dad also built ductwork for a mechanical contractor from Flagstaff. That guy would drive over to Holbrook in a blue Galaxie station wagon to check on his orders.

He carried a freekin' huge Smith & Wesson .357 (my Dad told me what it was) in a holster strapped to the steering column. It was so big it appeared to hang halfway down to the floorboard to this little kid. My Dad had a couple of handguns, but they looked like my toy cap guns compared to that monster.

Thanks for jolting my memory.

I asked a sheriff's deputy a fairly similar question a couple of years ago, and I will always remember his response.

" dude, if you are a law-abiding citizen that's not a felon, you should be doing whatever you have to do to defend yourself and your family from the shitheads that are all around us. You carrying protection is probably the least of my worries as a cop."

Take it for what it's worth, obviously not all cops are going to feel the same way.

Most friends I have in San Diego carry. It is very difficult to get a ccw in San Diego.

My sons' friend is a chp. Out with them one night I asked about someone illegally carrying. He said essentially what the other poster said above. Just keep the hands visible and tell him you have a gun. His comments were. They need all the help they can get, so if you aren't a criminal then they don't care. He said he would also be interested in what you are carrying because he loves guns. He also stated that most of the other cops he talks with feel the same.

As far as my friends are concerned. It really sucked when they passed certain laws, because they all had to take the stuff to another friends house in AZ.

I took my CCW class from Firearms Training Associates, Yorba Linda back when I was a CA resident. I wouldn't be discussing my CCW if I was still a CA resident. This is one of the many items they teach you during the course. They teach you about 1. CA law, 2. what actually happens in real life and 3. how to prepare yourself for both. It's a great course I recommend for anyone spending time in CA getting a CCW or not.

My personal experience is carrying in Laguna Beach is not necessary.

If you are carrying and you tell a cop, if it's illegal you WILL get busted. Don't count on getting a cool cop.

If you carry only when you go to "bad areas" then IMO you are doing it wrong and not true to what it means in the long term.

You do not know WHEN and WHERE you will need protection. If you are a true believer in self protection, you carry hot all the time. No exceptions.

Would you carry in Sunny Seal Beach CA? Remember this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Seal_Beach_shooting

Our sheriff in OC is pro 2a. getting a CCW is relatively easy. That said you would be surprised how many carry. As many beautiful areas we have down here we also have the negative elements ready to exploit and not enough LEO to respond in a timely manner.
I’d rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6 🤷🏻‍♂️
