Daughter and her husband just finished their first day of a planned 45. Itā€™s their delayed honeymoon. Figure if they can make it through this theyā€™ll make it through anything.

They did 26 today with a ton of elevation change. Brutal.
Wow that is great. You know after on 21 days in Europe we about averaged 10 miles a day.. Went to the Dr appointment today and lost 13 lbs from the vacation. That is the way to do it. Now I just have about 12 lbs. Please post up more pics of the adventure. We are looking into the next trip abroad. We have set a date for 2025. šŸ‘

Thatā€™s impressive. Well done sir.
Itā€™ll be interesting to see the before and after. It would be almost survivor like except for ending each day with chews and wine!

Quick update. Theyā€™re 220 miles in and should be half way in 2-3 days. Sounds like the toughest parts are behind them now itā€™s just grinding it out. Their core group is roughly 12 people from all over the world.

I must have chosen poorly...how do you get jobs that have 45+ days off? I had that much vacation time, but I couldn't imagine going back after that long. Two reasons: Work or vacation? Obviously choose vacation. And can you imagine 45 days of someone else screwing up your job:oops:

My daughter is a teacher. That was the easy one. SIL is a fireman. He had to work a shit ton of OT over the last couple years to get ready for it. Luckily his bosses were more than supportive. If i took 30 days off Iā€™d be buried in work or replaced. Iā€™m taking 2 weeks off for our 30th anniversary this fall. Itā€™s gonna be tough to break away.

Good thing is, there jobs will get no "worse"...A teacher's gig stays relatively the same year to year, and a fire house is a constant chaos. Pretty cool they can do it!

It is pretty cool. I wasnā€™t a big fan of the trip when they started talking about it. After FaceTiming them last night it might be the coolest thing Iā€™ve seen anyone do. They were sitting with their international group laughing, joking with the biggest smiles Iā€™ve ever seen. They were 10 days ahead of the original pace with no plans of slowing down because the group was solid.

They finished the full hike this morningšŸ˜³. (840km / 522 miles). Iā€™m not sure whatā€™s crazier, the fact they finished early or that theyā€™re going to hike a few more days before coming home.

@DWC Thank you for sharing... if they are in the area, Pamplona just kicked off the Running of the Bulls! 7 days of non-stop partying.

Theyā€™re in Lisbon (ericiera?) for the next 6 days to finish out the trip. This morningā€™s pic.

SIL did the run 3-4 years ago. Pretty sure my daughter would veto a second pass. Their feet are pretty wrecked. Not sure heā€™d be 100% up to it.

Awesome, great way to the end the trip. Cheers to them!

I did the Running of the Bulls, back in 2019. Amazing experience, have a buddy there now.... which is leading me to book it for next year.
Watching the "kickoff" Chupinazo as I type.

Yup, I was wondering what folks do about choice and breakin period regarding shoes for such a journey. Everyone I speak to regarding running marathons always speak firstly about their wrecked feet.

My niece did a walk like that (maybe that exact one?), and she was lucky to end up walking with a guy who knew something about foot care. She said she nearly had to drop out, but with his help she managed to go on. She had started out solo, ended up walking with a collection of people, and made some good friends. She just finished a walk in England with one of them about a week or two ago.

Itā€™s a lifestyle; she and her fiancĆ©e actually postponed their wedding, which had already been scheduled and booked, so they could walk in Scotland. Sheā€™s 39 years old, so I donā€™t think itā€™s a youthful wanderlust thing. Then, there was that time her mother had to fly to Australia to drag her out of a commune, the time she lived in Holland on an exchange program, and the time she lived in Ireland and worked as a barmaid. Interesting young lady, to say the least.

Welpā€¦ @DLC did 7 miles, from
Donostia - San Juan - Iā€™m sure theyā€™ll recognize some of the pics. Couldnā€™t imagine doing the entire trek. 7 miles kicked my ass.

Eating a lot and donā€™t feel full. Quality of the food is top notch.

DLC / DWC. Even Dave mixes them up šŸ˜. Cant really blame anyone, couldnā€™t get closer than one letter. I get all the ā€œriverā€ names mixed up.

My daughterā€™s reply.
ā€œā€Who ,Spain, WTFā€. ā€œThatā€™s so sickā€.

I sent her the link to follow along.

LOL exactly. My wife went trekking in Norway last year and signed me up for this deal in Spain sometime this year. I looked it up, said no fucking way, then rented a BMW GS and said I'll meet you at the hotel. Sorry but walking in the heat for days on end on a crowded trail is not my idea of fun.
