My daytona has hyd steering, a Latham helm is under the dash that the steering column connects to through the dash. The tilt mechanism is kinda sloppy. I see on newer boats what looks like a chrome ball and socket tilt column. Can I upgrade to this type? Leaving the helm control alone?
Does anybody know if the female spline in the Latham helm control fit IMCO tilt steering columns?
Helm control under dash looks like this one.

Brand and pics would be helpful. I'd imagine it's possible though.

Talked to Ron, he was full of knowledge, for those that want to know, the splines and shaft are common among helm controls.

The helm control, otherwise known as a “charlyn pump” isn’t actually built and designed for a boat. It’s a power pump for a forklift by original design.

Ron od a very straight shooter and I’ll guess you have the adjustable tilt headed your way.

While your spending money this year........ i noticed your key float doesn’t match!

So, the answer is yes, but it’s called a stem, not column on a boat. Thing is I didn’t need to spend $1100. The original ugly one was just loose where it bolted onto the dash, the large rubber boot hid the movement, once I got it opened up it was too late, the new one was here and looked too damn good to send back.
FYI, if you want to buy my older imco tilt stem, it’s available, the boot is a little torn, and parts are not available.
