If buying canal front be sure to look into bridge clearances and length of ride to open water. Also a lot of HOA’s in communities.

My friend lives in Cape Coral. As was pointed out, many HOA's with odd rules, many rental properties, bridges, and long rides to open water. It's a nice place to visit, not sure I would want to live there.

What do want to know...???? I live in the SW cape...Not sure who posted about HOA very Few of them unless your in gated Com.
We saw the area on a TV show and liked it but don't know much about it. We come down to FL 3-5 times a year and we like the fort Lauderdale area but that looks much nicer.

Friends moved there. He couldn't understand how we live in 100* + temps.
Their heat index can be more than desert heat and they have the humidity
They live on one of the canals that leads to the ocean.
They just had a tornado go thru cape Coral in october.
They had to redo their backyard and damage to their pool when it flooded
Evacuated twice for hurricanes
Not my cup o tea

If our daughters were not in Henderson close by I think my wife and would be in South Florida. When we stayed at AJs house in August it was great and we enjoyed the afternoon thunder storms. it was not that hot compared Havasu. We golfed every other day at some very nice courses. Winter at 80 degrees would be great.

I lived in Bonita Springs and worked in Ft Meyers in early '70's. Later in early 2000's I covered the entire state while selling industrial products and services. Been everywhere in FL. To me the Gulf Coast side is the best for many reasons, mainly the white sugar sand and topography. Especially love SW GC FL

Atlantic side is so crowded one can often go miles without being able to access the beach.

Overall it's a great state and place to live with much diversity of everything form people to topography. Be prepared to live with nature as FL has so much in and around at all times.
