My daughter just bought a 2017 Subaru. No she's not a lesbian, but I know you were thinking it. LOL 🤪

She just got a Mercury quote and it is nearly $300 a month. Where should we be looking instead? I see Costco offers insurance. We have AAA also, I guess that's worth a look. This is a $13000 car, not a freaking Bentley.

I was looking at upgrading my aging F 150, but I'm wondering what a nicer one will due to my monthly bill.

The lesbian Subaru jab was hilarious. The locals love Subaru’s here in NH. Both my daughter in law and her mom know of the reference.

300 for an 8 year old car is insane. Is she a kid?
That’s more than I pay for 3 vehicles full coverage including a Tesla, which is half my bill.

Go online and get a Geico quote.

They have always been the cheapest when I check around, Progressive also has good rates.

I recall paying 150.00 a month when I was 18 and living in Sacramento California back in 1988. 300 a months sounds exhorbenent , but inflation is what it is I suppose. My sons didn't pay that a couple years ago when they were under 18, but they were not driving Subbies. One was driving a 97 2 door Tahoe and the other a 2012 ish F250 in Snohomish WA.

I turned 16 in 1980. Paid 750 of my own earned cash on a 73 Pontiac Lemans. I was on my dad’s policy but I had to pay it. It was around 100 per month. Pretty sure that was almost half of my pizza making gig wage. 😳

Thats not right, Gabby is 16 and got her license in December and we pay $300 a month, hers should be half of that.

Have two ten year old cars and a seven year old car. My wife, daughter, and I all have good driving records. All three cars together probably worth 35k on a good day. Our auto insurance is up to $6k a year. Really thinking about dropping full coverage on all of them.

April of 2024 I got our renewal bill from Mercury (through AIS) 2014 f150 and 2018 Chevy Volt went from $2,200 a year to $4,000. I called AIS and was informed Mercury raised their rates by %22. Didn't pencil out for me and went to AAA and got coverage for $3,100 a year. Good drivers in our 60's with no issues. In ecesince your pay for all those other illegals that are not insured. 🤯

My daughter has a 2018 Subaru Impreza, base model hatchback. She is 22 years old, been driving for 4 years with no issues. She is on our Costco Connect Auto insurance (So Cal area), she pays 232 a month for comprehensive 250k/500k policy. On the same policy I have my 2024 GMC Sierra Crew Cab 1500 and my wife has a 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport L, we both pay about 100 a month. Youngsters definitely get hit hard.

There might be other things going on.

$1800 every 6 months for that car at her age seems really high.

Does she have a perfect record?Ttickets and accidents add a ton to the premiums.

Where does she live…can make a big difference

Is she the only driver?

High liability and low deductibles?

Comparing rates to other people is tough as the situation is almost always different. Single girl on her own without multi car, multi policy discounts isn’t cheap but I would expect it to be closer to $1200 unless she has points and lives in a bad insurance area. (Big cities aren’t great)

The value of her car doesn't matter....if she were to get in an accident with something newish that costs $100K+, that what the insurance company would have to cover.

I have AAA and have been not too irritated with them, which is more than I can say for about every other insurance company I've dealt with. Prices are reasonable, all things considered.

I just got quotes on a 2003 Honda civic through wawanesa and for full coverage it was around 880 per year. With just liability it was around 420 per year. This is in California. The quote your daughter got seems insane. Must be her age or something else going on.

The thing I’ve learned is you need to to shop around every 11 months nowadays and not be scared to change providers. The days of continuous good rates based on no claims and “loyalty” are looooong gone.☹️

Here I am getting pissed about what I pay, but you guys are getting bent over. Or have a bunch of claims or something.

Full coverage on 1, collision on the other with more coverage then legal limits is just over 300 for 6 months. No claims or tickets, ever. Maybe that helps?

We should do homeowners next.

The cars age and value absolutely affects the premium. There is more to it than that like crash data, thefts, loss ratio for the particular car, etc…

Certain cars that you would think would be good to insure aren’t based on a lot of behind the scenes data.

Truth to this. Did this when I was 25 and was shocked at what I saved.

Had home, car, truck, buisness, motorcycles, snowmobiles and saved nearly half when I shopped around.

Wawanesa was good for me until it wasn't - teen daughter got into an accident on her permit. They kept us as long as she was on her permit, but was then excluded from our policy once she became licensed, which basically means they dropped me because I had to switch carriers at that point.

There is a Subaru in Claremont with the license plate of LESBARU. I thought I had a picture of it but unfortunately I can’t find it.

Added a daughter to insurance last year as well as a new car. Tripled my rate. And now I have my second daughter getting her license next month.

Curious which Subaru it is. WRX is a little Hot Rod.
25 yr old daughter, 2016 Jeep Cherokee, about 1100.00 per year. Full coverage, 100/300.
State Farm, the kicker is, she is in Idaho.

I called the other day to see what it’s gonna cost to add my daughter to our insurance when she turns 16, was pleasantly surprised at $70.00 per month. I have an old Tahoe on the roster which would be the primary vehicle that rate was based on, but she’s also covered on all of our other cars. Who knows🤷‍♂️

We put Maynard on our cheapest vehicle though he drive his Nissan. The 2001 GMC 2500.

Made quite a difference.
It changes when they hit 25.
At least it does on our policy.

Insurance is the best piece of paper you can buy.

Trump was complaining about the Insurance industry some time ago. Especially how little competition their is between companies and state by state restrictions and regulations on buying insurance.
Probably all set up by lobbyists.

Check your zip code. It’s not about her, it’s the cars and people where you live. Friend lives in Glendale. Lots of high dollar cars and insurance fraud. Moved his address to Eaglerock. Cut in half.

She or any young person will pay $$ until they have 5 years of driving experience. Mine ran 8G a year for 4 cars.

I was with USAA for over 15 years up until a couple years ago. I noticed my rates climbing pretty dramatically even though I had not one single claim with them, ever.

Shopped around and ended up saving over 60% for exact same limits and similar fine print. USAA is not close to the company it once was, IMO.

The same happened to us. We had USAA for years with no claims and their rates kept going up. I shopped around and was able to add my vehicles onto my RV insurance through Good Sam. It’s about half the price now.

I live on the state line with property in both states, WI and MI. MI is 4x's the price for legal minimums due mostly to medical coverage requirements. Supposedly more if you don't have health coverage for drivers.

Why is it 6 months now? I just got progressive for all the cars and my wife and I since she was dropped and her registration was suspended. It was like 5 something out of pocket (I’m assuming first and last month) and 2 something for 4 months. I was in a hurry and I needed it like yesterday so I just paid but I really wanted a yearly option. Maybe it’s always been that way but I feel like I’ve always just made a yearly payment previously.

Insurance where I live is charged as it is used. To hold the money is kind of a hassle as they cannot legally use it until it is billed. Weird that you get a discount for 6 months paid in full but don't want to do an annual policy.

Motorcycles and boats they do annual policies otherwise everybody around here would be seasonal for those for liability.

Because rates are going up. Most carriers switched to 6 month terms because they are able to get rate increases effective faster and they are able to check driving records every 6 months. Once rate increases settle out which seems to be happening by this year… we will start to see some carriers bring back 12 month terms.

StateFarm in California was allowed to increase rates 22% in 2024 and then another 17% in 2025.
My 2014 Jerp Wrangler and 2015 Yukon cost more to insure today then when new. Zero claims on both.

Auto insurance is no longer inexpensive.

My RZR’s are both AZ insured now. SF CA wanted $1800 for my 2015 1000. SF AZ it was 600.
Limits are higher then most so my umbrella kicks in.

She has renter's insurance through Lemonade, they can add the car for $97 a month. $1000 deductible. Seems almost too good to be true. I don't know jack about Lemonade though. It seems they have a plan that will charge you per mile driven.

Our daughter turned 16 in December. They increased our premium to our auto went up $9000 a year. We do insure a lot of vehicles but fuck me. We obviously moved carriers and save a few grand. Her mom and I have a combined 60+ years of driving and have never filed a claim in our lives.
