I got a C-500 with I believe #12 gears in it. Perfect condition. Glenn

Unsure of how the trans affects tne v-box ratio, but my Howard 24' (splash of the Spectra) with a 1:1 velvet drive runs 4% UNDER-driven.

I actually had 2 and they are both gone.

You always want to gear for your horsepower. A trans will simply help you pull a taller gear out of the hole if the gear you require for your power level is high. They are 1:1 in high gear (unless it's an overdrive trans).

In my Schiada 21 with 1200 hp for example I use a 42-48% gear with a T-400 and use second gear to launch the boat. It will come out in third but is very slugging in doing so. It depends on the size and weight of the boat and the amount of HP available as to what gear you can successfully run. Overgear it and it will be a sled on top end. You need to get your top end rpm within your engine's power curve (cam). If you can't reach it you have too tall a gear.
